WASHINGTON (AP) -- National Intelligence director James Clapper says he wouldn't put it past Russia to "to shoot down an American aircraft" if a no-fly zone is imposed over Syria.

Russia could go do near-space detonations of a few high-yield nukes over the northern US, and blanket the US in EMP pulses.
Much of the infrastructure for communications and power distribution would be wrecked, with significant issues with transportation (think food, resource distribution). Death from starvation would be significant.
We could of course, return the favor in kind, but I suspect that Russia is far more likely to survive such an EMP war than the US.
Lol. Yeah, as some one who has seen USG preparedness and FEMA operations up close, I would have zero confidence in them or USG regarding any disaster. They can’t handle situations from mother nature where they got a lot of advanced warning and had 100 meetings and telecons to discuss plans. I’m sure they wouldn’t fare any better after the major cities of the east coast, west coast, flyover country are vaporized and 10s of million of survivors are dying of radiation poisoning, burns, etc. Even the disruption of distribution of food and goods would cause breakdown of civil society. Add to that 10-100 million dying from burns and radiiation.
But, hey, the neocon puppet masters might then have their victory of Salafist jihadists in Syria because the biggest force opposing them is gone, so...

Russia only allows us to fly in Syria. Russia could announce/declare a no fly zone at anytime, simply switch on the S-300/400 system.
US fighters are forbidden to fly within 20 miles of Russian aircraft right now over Syria.
US hasn’t been invited to area...Russia has. So yes they might shoot one down since obama has them there illegally.

If Trump doesn't win, I prefer Putin as a leader over Hillary and camp. He gave Russia a flat tax that was very low..
