Wow, have not heard the term "soi dog" since my own long trip to Thailand years ago!
They are generally friendly little food beggars, yet all over the place there. :-)

We had a large dog who became quickly devoted to us. Very well mannered to the point that two neighbors argued about who would take him over when we left. He was a sweetheart unless you were a rat or a cat. The neighbor called us when Si Dang passed on. Everyone was broken-hearted. Everyone on the street feeds the Soi dogs. There were about seven in our area.
