Well for one thing, regardless of what the editorial staff may have been (I wasn’t around here then) in the past, they’re all leftists.
For another, they regularly hide behind a smokescreen of “good government” BS and phony reform in order to gull people who aren’t full-on leftists.
So I’m pretty sure it’s not ignorance, it’s them being deceptive in an attempt to fool ignorant moderates into supporting leftists by echoing their arguments back at them and shaming them into abandoning candidates who would advance their issues, as a weird form of down home aw-shucks virtue signalling.
