I have been tutoring a 6th grader after school this year. This common core math is something else. They have to complete diagrams to show the meaning of the problem. Unbelievable. And if they don’t do the diagram properly and have the correct answer (even showing work), it is counted wrong. I have a relative who is a literal genius and he is having hard time with it with his son.

And then there is the literature assignment worksheet that prompts the student, after reading a story about conflict, to write how he handles conflict at home. Sounds like a fishing expedition to me.

I say we replace Common Core with Common Sense!!!!!

I checked the glossary in the back of his math book only to find the definitions provided in English and Spanish. Our tax dollars at work.

I guess we know what candidates the education publishing companies are contributing to.

And by the way, the State Education Agencies have become another level of bureaucracy that need to be removed or revamped. They are too much into the “regulation” business which then trickles down to the county ed offices.
