I just went to vote early in VA yesterday. Early voting is restricted to those with a reason, although there are a lot reasons including work hours plus long commutes. That could be almost anybody living in Northern VA that works in DC.

VA has good voter ID laws. Must show a government ID, identify yourself, and state the address on your registration. The ballots are paper, bubble in your votes, you feed the ballot into a tabulating machine and the ballots drop into a locked box for canvassing. My experience with the DMV is that they require proof of citizenship status for licenses and ID transactions.

The problem in VA and in most other states is that legal permanent aliens (green card holders) can vote if they just check the box on the registration form that they are a citizen. No proof of citizenship is required when registering.

Green card holders are entitled to SSNs, drivers licenses, etc. As someone who lived in VA for 36 years in Fairfax County and acted as both a poll watcher and election officer, this is a problem.

There are also nefarious voter fraud types in VA who are registering dead people. The voter rolls are not being cleaned up.
