I wouldn't go that far. I'd more say he wants to regain the former status quo, and I don't think that's possible anymore. Obama, Jarret, Hillary and the Muslim Rats have carefully damaged the board - on purpose. The game is now permanently changed, and they hope to exploit it by turning it into a world war.
There's no going back now. Ukraine is gone, Putin's got it, same with the Crimea. We'd have to have a nuclear war at this point to even hope to change that. Disengaging from the region allowed Putin to act, and there's no going back. He didn't miss his chance.
Same with Syria, because now there's ISIS where there wasn't before. No going back - the solution to Syria (and thus Aleppo) is to eradicate ISIS. And to do that we need Russia's help.

Urkaine is now run openly by thugs and Nazis, assisted by the US and others. Crimea was part of Russia historically, for centuries. The US news on Ukraine is the worst of all. They tell no truth at all.
