Israel is seeking to buy three more advanced submarines from Germany at a combined price of $1.3 billion, an Israeli newspaper reported Friday.
The planned purchase aims to replace within the next decade the oldest vessels in its existing Dolphin fleet, which began entering service in 1999, the Maariv daily reported.
Contacted by AFP, the Defense Ministry declined to comment on the report.
Israel already has five of the state-of-the-art German submarines, with a sixth due for delivery in 2017.
Foreign military sources and governments say the Dolphins can be equipped with missiles armed with nuclear warheads.
They believe Israel has between 100 and 200 warheads and missiles capable of delivering them.
Israel is thought to be the Middle East’s sole if undeclared nuclear power, refusing to confirm or deny it has such weapons.
“The new submarines are said to be more advanced, longer, and equipped with better accessories,” the newspaper report said.
In 2012, the influential German news weekly Der Spiegel quoted former high-ranking German defense ministry officials saying that Berlin always assumed Israel was putting nuclear warheads on the Dolphin-class vessels.

while Israelis work very hard and are highly productive, have managed to transform a very backwards land into a dynamic, modern, and highly technological/scientific economy.....
they still labor under a tremendous tax burden (necessary for defense against their murderous IslamoNazi enemies)

USA generously provides a useful fraction of help towards this defense cost burden (but then turns around and gives ten times as much advanced weaponry to Israel’s enemies...so the overall equation of USA is still very much weighted against Israel’s survival, alas!)...so the Israelis still have to shoulder most of the true cost of their self-defense. These little submarines are far from the most advanced of Israel’s defense systems but they are VERY helpful....(one of several components of an integrated defense and second-strike-deterence protection apparatus, most of the details of which still remain secret)
This amazing capability has prevented any more mass-scale attacks on the tiny nation. NOW if Jerusalem could also figure out how to stop the insane Moslem terror attacks.....Israeli streets remain much safer than many American major cities’ -— but .... the Moslems are still managing to murder innocent people ... no nation on earth has figured out a fool-proof way to stop them, they’re trained to murder us “infidels” from their birth and both Iran and Arab dictatorships are training and funding and equipping thousands more Moslem terrorists as we type....

I think they’re just called ‘Dolphin 2’.
They can carry a dozen or more nuclear missiles. Retaliatory strike capability.
I always pray for the USA and Israel, as well as the UK.
Even France.
But Germany and some others make it hard to pray for them when they are committing suicide.
yes. they have economic problems mostly due to the costs of their defense burden...and there are some pockets still that are not fully participating in the larger economic development (the govt in Jersualem wrangles over this just like we hear in USA about ‘maldistribution of wealth’ — the primary means in Israel of addressing this seems to be an intensive push on education and job training). the existence of ‘boycotts’ have also hurt Israel’s economy but the Israelis seem able to bounce back with better and more high techy products that overseas buyers especially want to acquire (such as in the important medical/health, computers/electronics and advanced defense equipment sectors).

understood about Germany, but France, UK, and USA (under Obama.Hillary.kerry) are ALSO committing Suicide..and in the same way (importing the enemy forces....also USA under Obama funds/trains/and/arms the enemy overseas while also providing our Moslem enemies with air, logistics, training, intelligence, and poltical support)

My brother in law was a Navy pilot and later instructor. I don’t remember in what way he interacted with the the Israeli pilots but he had nothing but good to say about thm. He said that they were very dedicated and gave everything 100%. He also said that there was little politics involved. Promotions and positions were based solely on capabilities.
Israel has a very very good defense force. USA remains number one, even though Obama has undercut and demoralized our wondeful USA military....we have some of the very best soldiers, sailors, airmen, etc in the entire world but Obama’s undercut them, demoralized them, and it can’t be easy now
Israel needs the best possible defenses since she is so tiny...and of course Israel’s miitary is necesarily much much smaller than USA’s (just compare the sizes of the two countries and populations)
USA has been able to survive while coasting on our defenses (we need to rebuild from all the obama damage...and provide our forces with a lot better support ...make sure our ‘boys’ know how much we really really appreciate them!)
