To me he sounds exactly like my dear friend (a male also) who is from Long Island. If I close my eyes, I swear I’m listening to my friend John!
I’m from and currently in the midwest, none of my friends pronounce words like Mr. Trump. Just glad he IS doing good here, I see his signs and I see hillary for prison signs, cracks me up! This is just outside Chicago proper.
But I guess I no longer have "total immersion" in the real Midwestern "drawl" other than TV and talk radio. Do you detect any broadcasters having an identifiable accent?
I've also heard people from the cities talk about Hillary's "horrible Chicago accent". She in fact is horrible, but she seems to speak quite normally (to me)...and so does Mr Trump.
...friend...from Long Island.
I've heard NY people pronounce a hard "G" when referring to Long Island, which sounds like Long-Giland. Aside from not pronouncing "Rs" plus putting them where they don't belong, they also do a number of other weird things which also radically violate Dictionary rules.
Re: Trump’s accent.
I can hear it clearly; I have family from his neck of the woods.
Accents come out stronger under certain conditions, and there’s a whole lot of tone and inflection and cadence to Brooklyn/Queens- ese.
