Ex-NSA Contractor Stole at Least 500 Million Pages of Records and Secrets, U.S. Says
The Justice Department outlines details of the probe, says it will likely charge Harold Martin with additional crimes
WASHINGTONA former National Security Agency contractor amassed at least 500 million pages of government records, including top-secret information about military operations, by stealing documents bit by bit over two decades, the Justice Department alleged in a court filing submitted Thursday.
Prosecutors in August arrested and charged Harold Hal Martin III, of Glen Burnie, Md., with theft of government property and unauthorized removal or retention of classified documents. The case was kept under seal until earlier this month, when some details became public.
The new filing said the Justice Department would likely charge Mr. Martin with additional crimes, including violating the Espionage Act, an offense that carries much stiffer penalties than the current charges.

Did he get at least $700,000,000 for those secrets like Hilliary did?
The argument didn’t work for the young Navy CPO Nuclear technician who took a few “selfie” of himself in his bunk. His bunk was in a “restricted” area. I think the classification level he violated was CONFIDENTIAL. (Note doing this from memory, which in my case is usually faulty to some degree!) His punishment was a discharge (probably dishonorable!) and 18 months. Not sure if the sentence was suspended or not.
Five hundred million pages!
That’s like... what... a hundred Encyclopedia Britannica’s?
Must be a lotta secrets, including who shot JFK and where Jimmy Hoffa went.
Yes but can’t give you exact dates. Certainly after the WikiLeaks came out on Hellary’s “expert” handling of classified material. That Guy’s lawyer tried the “Hellary Defense”, it didn’t work!
The way things are going right now, I don’t believe one word about what they say this man did. In fact, the truth is probably the opposite.
Or, is this guy the source of the Wikileaks?
>500,000,000 pages over 20 years...
Assuming a 50 week work year, 5 work days a week, by my calculations, that works out to be about 100,000 pages per day.
Forgive me for being skeptical.
If true, then, the only people on the planet who do not have access to our “secrets” are the Citizens of the United States.
Bit by bit? That’s 100,000 pages per working day for 25 years.
What was the guy going to do with all this? Was he just a hoarder?
Total record capacity for the NSA is 100,000,000 pages of information.
