The Dinner, and it is an annual affair, raises much money for the Archdiocese to perform the corporal works of mercy. And even though demographics have changed the Cardinal Archbishop of the Archdiocese of New York is a political player and stakeholder in New York, state as well as city. For any major political invitee to snub the dinner would reverberate throughout the Catholic community here, and not to their benefit. Trump has been to this dinner often in the past. And why should he boycott now. It’s not like he is Catholic, or even religious. It’s a good time and Trump will have a good time as well, and probably give Dolan, whom I have met and like, a good donation.
Trump and the Cardinal are friendly. They know each other well.
This is for the children...this time they raised 6 million dollars for the children. That is good, a new high for this dinner.
I do not know how much more this charity could do, in terms of the money raised, but as I watched and looked over the guests, Pols and other elites, my thought was that There were many, maybe a hundred or so, who could have given one million each and not missed it. We know that is true of the nominees and several others, such as Bloomberg.
I also do not know how much, percentage-wise, gets to the 'children'. My guess is that most of it does what it is intended to do.
