Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a prominent Donald Trump supporter, is 15 points behind his Democratic opponent, Paul Penzone, according to a new poll.
Penzone leads Arpaio 46 percent to 31 percent in the Arizona Republic/Morrison/Cronkite News survey out Thursday.
ADVERTISEMENT Arpaio, 84, has become a national figure over his hard-line views on illegal immigration and repeated clashes with the federal government. He is seeking his seventh term as sheriff of Arizona’s largest county.
Reports emerged last week the Department of Justice plans on charging Arpaio with criminal contempt after he and his deputies allegedly ignored court orders to halt racial profiling following a case over immigration policy.
Thursday’s results reflect Arizona’s new status as a battleground state after years of reliably going red.
Another Arizona Republic/Morison/Cronkite News poll out Wednesday found Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton 5 points ahead of her Republican rival in a state Democrats haven't carried in a presidential election in 20 years.
Thursday’s edition, meanwhile, found low support in Maricopa County for positions Arpaio and Trump share.

Hillary’s Fixers have been hard at work. Sheriff Joe- make sure that all the evidence in the Obama investigation is in safe hands. Do not leave it to be destroyed by a democrat plant who may be put in there for just that purpose.
Arpio will win again. These polls come out every time in favor of the challenger.
Note the timing of the “Justice Dept” leak about prosecution. Typical Dem tactic. If the leak doesn’t work, then actual prosecution will be done. We’ve seen this BS in Alaska, Texas and other places, and most of the time, a conviction if there is one, is overturned because of prosecutorial misconduct.

years ago while living in Phoenix area I attended some church events that had display tables and spanish speaking people signing up “immigrants” for all sorts of helps and services and voting. It shocked me then that churches were doing this, stabbing themselves in the back and the rest of their state and country.
I know it’s not only churches, but I read it’s common, many churches think Jesus was a social justice warrior and push this agenda - again, creating their own churches future hardships and many times demise.....

Clinton just dropped 2 million in ads and have put a focused on Arizona in scheduling surrogate held rallies. Either they think they are so far ahead and are just trying to expand the map for a larger victory or they are desperately trying to flip a state to offset losing a blue state to Trump.
I'll be kind here, and suggest that the guy is old, senile, and probably should have retired years ago.
That was pretty much the thing that suddenly made conservatives (or at least the birther contingent) start liking him. He really has had a remarkable career, with tons of abuse of power accusations and lawsuits that he usually loses he really is pretty universally disliked all the way until voting day. The power of incumbency, and a lot of weak opposition candidates.
Phoenix is in Maricopa County and Maricopa County has been the recipient of thousands of illegals, who I assume are intending on voting. Special note-the Mayor of Phoenix is a Dem and recently renamed Columbus Day as ‘Indigenous People’s Day’ in Phoenix. Phoenix is also a sanctuary city. I really do suspect the voting machines have already been tampered with........
PS-Sheriff Joe is still able to carry out his duties....he’s just hampered by the Leftist judges and Obama’s DO(in)J in trying to carry out the duties of his office. And he does operate within the law, no matter what you read.

And they refuse to post the internals, but they have Hillary at a 55% negative, where every other poll in the country has her at 70+%.
Joe Arpaio has been the most popular politician in Arizona since I have lived here for 25 years. He is a rockstar, albeit a really old Mick Jaegery one these days. When Sheriff Joe loses an election in AZ I’ll eat my Pink Underwear.
