Back in the 1950s STDs were almost a thing of the past due to antibiotics and morality. A skank from an East Oklahoma bar was probably “safe”. Some places were still “hot spots”.
Then came the 1960s Counter Culture sexual revolution(brought on by the Pill) and STDs took off like a rocket!
By 1978, everyone I knew who picked up a skank from an Oklahoma bar caught the clap or crabs. Everyone!
Then back in 1966-76, some of the military troops brought it “home” from SE Asia. By 1977, a particular tough to kill strain from Asia was found in Salt Lake City.
One airman unknowingly brought the “Clap” home and gave it to his wife. He then got cleaned of it with anti-boiotics, then his wife gave HIM back the Clap. He accused HER of sleeping around! It was a mess!
Did she get it from her husband and since she wasn not treated for it then re-infected him or did she indeed ‘sleep’ around?
Interesting story! Btw, I am from Long Island. To me, Oklahoma was only ever a musical, lol. Didn’t ever hear of the ‘downside’ of Oklahoma bars!
