Jan 2013-When “Obozocare” went into law... my 90 year old mother (IN A WHEELCHAIR) sat in the ER from 7:00 am to 3:40 PM-Until the staff got to her.... All the ‘other’ people got attention, FIRST.

The ER was wall-to-wall with ‘others’ who had their children running around screaming, coughing, vomiting, etc... and ALL of them got attention ... FIRST!!

For THAT-My mother worked her ENTIRE LIFE

Health Center... serves patients who are originally from a range of countries such as Mexico, Eritrea, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

Hmmm...

Why would they even mention terrorism? There is absolutely no connection between isolated incidence of suicide bombing and terrorism. While they have stopped mentioning Islam in this context, it should be noted that there is no connection between Islam and terrorism, other than the occasional coincidence.

This is in the neighborhood in Oakland that gives the city it’s vaunted position as a murder capitol. “International Way” used to be called East 14th St back when this was a nice place in Oakland to live. Now it’s just a place for foreign people from the ME to live.

The normal, taxpaying people generally do not go to the ER or get admitted. If they need medical care, it is an in an out quickly health care delivery.
What is left is suoer elderly people, illegals and dirt balls.
Under Obamacare, patient satisfaction scores started. That means the squeaky wheel gets the grease, because no facility wants low satisfaction scores which affects their reimbursement. The person who shouts the loudest receives the most attention.
it is causing major dissatisfaction with the people delivering clinical care. Now, hospitals allow verbal abuse of their staff, because any perceived push back from the staff to the abusive patient may make that patient write a bad satisfaction survey.
It is a jungle working in the clinics and hospitals now.
I suggest next time, take your mother to an urgent care clinic, not the ER. If she has a medical problem that requires admission, she will be bumped to the top of the line because the urgent care doctor will contact the ER or admitting physician directly.
Avoid hospital affiliated ERs if you reasonably can.

Well, SMARTY, on the second Tuesday in November 2012, the American voting public went to the polls to say, via their votes, Who they wanted to Govern them and the type of Government they wanted. A majority of those whom cast their ballots said, again, via their vote, that they wanted to be Governed by a muslim and Democrat. This is how Democrats Govern. The useful idiots at that time get preferential treatment, which actually amounts to subsistence. Those they refer to as useless eaters receive the remnant of the miserly amount allocated to the useful idiots. This is what a majority of American voters, in their infinite wisdom said, via their votes, they wanted. I, myself did not want it and voted for Romany [actually against obama]. But, as the old saying goes, two hudred million idiots can't be wrong.

A few minutes ago, I was at a red light and a fire truck pulled to a stop. Four firefighters slowly got out and sauntered to a house nearby.

There was such an obvious lack of concern I assumed that the denizen was likely a frequent flyer who calls 911 for her free ride to the hospital every time she gets a cough.

it was not related to terrorism.

Immediately followed by, They also added it was not immediately clear if the man planned to just harm himself or also injure others.

Uh, hello. Pipe bombs are intended to injure others which in turn is terrorism.

I’ve done long waits in the ER long before Obama came around. It all depends on the ailments you’re “competing” with. Anything that looks like it might kill you in the next hour will always go through first. Visibly spewing contagions (coughing vomiting) are next. Then comes everybody else. It can be very frustrating. It’s led to the rise of the quickmed/ not quite an ER places, very handy for folks that are sick but not ER sick, especially handy if you know what it is because it’s something you get a lot and just need somebody to write you a scrip. There used to be a lot of those places, then they went away, they’ve come back a lot in the last few years.

Ditto-—I had a FIVE hour wait one night about 20 years ago.

Brutal.

My wife was a frequent bladder infection sufferer (she’s gotten better at avoiding them) we did a lot of overnights in the ER on that. Usually it was 4 hours to wait and 4 more for “treatment”. She knew the symptoms by heart so she could walk in and tell them what was wrong. Of course it’s not going to kill you for weeks so all the possible heart attacks and asthma attacks go before you, and it’s not contagious so everybody that might infect the waiting room goes too. Worse was when we got good insurance, once they find you’ve got good insurance hospitals like to do ALL the tests. I’ve gotten a lot of reading done at 2AM in uncomfortable chairs.

The reemergence of urgent care clinics has been a God send, her last infection was 2 hours round trip, tell them she’s got an infection, urine sample, yup here’s your scrip.

Ever hear of Triage?

If she was able to sit around that long without being seen, it must not have been much of an emergency. Perhaps an urgent care facility would have been more appropriate.

Or do what I do when I have a real, but not life threatening emergency - go to a suburban ER where you are going to be the sickest/most injured there. You avoid the crowds of folks who use the ER as a primary care physician so they don’t have to pay.

Another hint - a $600 ambulance ride will move you to the front of the line. Rolling off an ambulance will almost always get you seen ahead of walk-ins.

I agree.

We had several in our area during the 80s called HealthStop-—they were terrific and then poof!—— they were gone.

Several new urgent care facilities near me now——I haven’t needed to go yet. (fingers crossed)

I’m not in a wheelchair; but I can tell you that sitting
and waiting for an hour or more (or 3 or 4 hrs.) to see a
doctor - then sitting for another half hour in the exam.
room for the doctor to come in the room is very, very tiring
and when you’re already in pain in a wheelchair, the long
wait is UNBEARABLE. . ESPECIALLY if doctor’s visits are
frequent. DESPAIR to put it mildly. :o(
