Despite all the comedy about it, duck and cover is very useful outside the inner blast zone where nothing will save you. But if you are 3 miles away from a one megaton explosion you have 10 seconds before the blast wave hits.
If you are 12 miles away, you have 50 seconds.
Duck and cover means you aren’t in a survivable zone, but treated to flying glass, debris, shattered windows, rocks and crap killing you. It’s really a shame that duck and cover is just turned into a comedy joke.
