(CNSNews.com) The new Smithsonian Institutions National Museum of African American History and Cultures tagline is powerful moments in African American history, culture, and community. However, the museum with a $540 million price tag funded 50 percent by U.S. taxpayers and with a collection of more than 36,000 artifacts and 100,000 people represented doesnt include many prominent blacks, including Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Edward Brooke, a Republican who became the first African American to be elected to the U.S. Senate by popular vote in 1966. After touring the new museum and exploring the website, which contains information on all the exhibitions in it, CNSNews.com asked the Smithsonian why Thomas, Brooke and eight other prominent men and women are not included in the museum. CNSNews.com asked: Many prominent African Americans are not included in the museum, most notably Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas Can [the institute say] why Thomas and the others listed below are not a part of the museum exhibits?
Linda St. Thomas, chief spokesperson for the Smithsonian, replied:
There are many compelling personal stories about African Americans who have become successful in various fields, and, obviously, Associate Justice Thomas is one of them, St. Thomas said in an email. However, we cannot tell every story in our inaugural exhibitions.
We will continue to collect and interpret the breadth of the African American experience, St. Thomas said.

half a billion.
why not, it’s not like we’re 20 trillion dollars in debt
Leaving out Justice Thomas is an utter disgrace.
More likely when steps down.
I wonder if the museum has anything on the first slave owner in the Americas.
A free black...
What a lame excuse. Liberals doing their selective history again.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
He is a BLACK SUPREME COURT JUSTICE!!!!
How the hell do you leave him out?
The real truth....President Obama gave us a list of who should and should not be in the Museum.
He is an example of what it looks like when you stand up for your beliefs in a hostile environment.
Not to change the subject, but they need to move the Smithsonian out of Washington DC. Too much of our government is concentrated in Washington, and there is no reason why all of Americana should be stuck there. Open a branch in Kansas or South Dakota. Stop paying the Washington DC wage rates for the hired help, too.
Being a Supreme Court Justice is kind of a big deal.
A black on the Supreme Court?
"Just the ones that advance the narrative," she continued. "Justice Thomas's problem is that he loves the country, and we can't have that."

Someone needs to spray paint “who is Clarence Thomas” on the side of the building.
The Government, especially the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, should not be in the business of defining or teaching history.
It is as absurd as Fed.gov defining or teaching religion.
That is a function of civil society and the people themselves - not government.
Right. Which is why it was controversial when Allen West joined the CBC - like they hadn’t considered that a black Republican would ever get elected. These organizations are not for blacks but black Democrats.
*Explanation*
Decisions must be made and it was a tough one, but Rev Al Sharpton got the nod.
But they mention Anita Hill?
