It's the darn talk shows. Every morning my sister puts on the Today show while she gets ready for work. I try to tell her they're pouring poison in her ear, even as they chit chat. She likes the happy chatter and feels she is getting informed, I guess. My blood pressure goes through the roof when I am forced to listen to that stuff in a waiting room.

Who knew my parents were right? TV really is a boob box and watching too much really does turn your brain to jelly.

p.s. good morning, all. And thank you, Nikos, for these threads. I cannot get to them real-time, so often, but they're my daily go-to!

Tell your sister to put on Fox & Friends instead. They have fun things on, helpful ideas, and politics and news items. She’ll get better informed from them IMHO. I’ve had them on in the background every morning for years.

It's all of the programming! At least the Three Stooges offered a realistic view of the life of a working stiff.

Seriously though, the decline of social mores and ability for an individual to think critically started a quick decline with the advent of radio. Teevee is even more of a dumbing agent.
