THE LIBERAL MEDIA’S PERPETUAL SMEAR CAMPAIGN
Powerline blog ^ | 10-13-16 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 10/14/2016 10:10:41 PM PDT by DeweyCA

Today’s news is dominated by claims that years ago, Donald Trump made crude comments about women, or inappropriately touched women, or intruded into a women’s dressing room, and so on. Gone from the campaign are such issues as the economy, Obamacare, national security and immigration. As Election Day approaches, the news is all Trump scandals, all the time.

Some will say–I may have said–that Republican primary voters asked for it by nominating a man with obvious personal vulnerabilities, instead of a more upright (and more electable) Marco Rubio, John Kasich, Ted Cruz or whoever.

But what’s a Republican to do? Last cycle, we nominated the ultimate Boy Scout: Mitt Romney. Whatever you think of Romney from a policy perspective, he is as admirable a man as you will ever meet. To find a presidential candidate of better moral character, you probably have to go back to Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Romney never said a rude word about a woman in his life.

So what happened? Did Romney and the GOP get credit in the press for the candidates’s outstanding character? No. Romney, who helped to create tens of thousands of jobs at Bain Capital, was denounced as a “vulture capitalist” and blamed, absurdly, for one woman’s developing cancer. The Washington Post made a front page story of the fact that 50 years earlier, when he was in high school, he and others had cut a classmate’s hair. Oh, and Romney was a racist, too. Does anyone remember why? I don’t.

The cycle before that, GOP voters nominated John McCain. McCain is a great patriot, a man of extraordinary character and courage who survived years of torture and abuse as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Did the liberal media give Republicans credit for nominating such a hero? No. The New York Times, to its everlasting shame, peddled a false rumor that McCain had an affair with a lobbyist. (Bill Clinton would have done that before breakfast.) It also berated McCain for failing to release his medical records–which, actually, he did, unlike Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

The Left’s permanent smear campaign against conservatives doesn’t just extend to Republican presidential candidates. Recall how the Democrat/media complex treated the Tea Party. Prominent House Democrats lied, disgracefully: they claimed, falsely, that Tea Party activists at a protest in Washington had hurled racial insults at black Democrats like John Lewis. The press ate it up. They printed the Democrats’ lies as facts, and to this day reporters and editors have never corrected the libel, even though a $100,000 prize to anyone who could substantiate the Democrats’ lies went unclaimed.

What’s the point? I’m not really sure. I certainly am not in favor of nominating candidates of poor or marginal character. But the hypocrisy of the liberal media is galling. In this election cycle, lewd comments made decades ago are apparently of earth-shattering importance. Really? Where was that standard when Bill Clinton was running for office? Or John Kennedy? Or Lyndon Johnson? And how about Barack Obama and Joe Biden? Has anyone actually investigated to see what they might have said about women over the last thirty years?

What is the point of nominating someone of extraordinary moral stature, like Mitt Romney, if the political press will not only unanimously refuse to acknowledge the fact, but worse, join in a campaign of deception to smear Romney in the eyes of voters?

These days there is lots of gnashing of teeth over the decline of our political culture. And it surely has declined, as manifested in the current presidential campaign. But one must ask, why has that happened? It seems to me that the media’s permanent smear campaign against the Republican Party, waged cycle after cycle regardless of the actual merits of Republican nominees, is the largest part of the answer.

They would have personally destroyed any republican candidate.

It’s what they do. But NEVER at this level.

I’m not sure what posting what we already know a dozen times a day helps, but instead of posting these things FReepers could be posting all over facebook and twitter and instagram and tumblr and so on.

They dont KNOW what we know here. I post to them many times a day. See lot of black and hispanic folk on the sites too voting for trump.

This person lives in a different universe. I wonder what's the color of his sky.

The drunken lout Ted Kennedy left a woman to die and didn’t even have the decency to try and get her help. The press covered his ass by backing up his “too in shock to get help” fabricated story.

He gets to run for President without a questioning press and gets a King’s send off when he dies.

How much more can one say to prove that the press is the perpetual enemy of Republicans?

Oh, and I will NOT choose my words wisely. I tell trump every day in his Twitter account to NOT CONCEDE!

I dont give a #### what the margin is, he should fight every single instance of fraud and Rudy will back and I THINK Newt will, and WE WILL.

What’s the worst that can happen if he refuses to concede and drags it into court? a civil war?

Wont be as bad as the nuclear with Russia that I think putin thinks is winnable to some extent.

Their military doctrine is now nukes first.

It would be just what obama wanted. The wiping out of most whites and many Christians.

There are tens of millions of Americans who have no idea what Free Republic is, but they’re gonna vote for Trump. They may not have the depth of knowledge that we have here as you stated, but they know there is something horribly wrong with our country and the direction it’s going. They sense the horrendous media bias, and oh yes they detest Hillary Clinton as much as any of us here. We need to be of good cheer. Maybe Donald Trump had the most soiled background of any of the Republican candidates, but he’s also the only one who could withstand attacks like these and persevere and fight on. What the Dems, the media, and the GOP frauds are doing to him goes beyond political battle. They are trying to destroy this man professionally and personally. They’re the ones with the gutter mentality not Donald Trump. Every day must be hell for this man, but he’s fighting like hell and how can you not admire him simply for that.

Rubio, Kasich, and Cruz would have been crushed by the Hillary propaganda machine.

By now they would have apologized for being born and would be mumbling about what a great President Hillary would be as they begged for a cabinet post in a future Hillary White House.

Guess the author if tge piece forgot “Binders full of women” (sarcasmz).

The fact is, the problem isn’t Trump, and by even saying this, we fall into defense mode and lose. The problem is the Liberal Left and the PUSILLANIMOUS COWARDS who run the GOP.

NO CANDIDATE, not Romney, not Trjmp, not Jesus Chrust, would ever be safe from the fly-specking, irrelevant attacks of the media as long as the Paul Ryans and Mitch McConnells of the world are willing to surrender and jump overboard at attacks like these.

When Jack Kennedy was outed for his extra marital affairs in the WHITE House, the Dems said it was his medications. When Ted Kennedy impregnated and murdered Mary Joe Kopechne, they ignored it. When Clinton was accused of rape and caught getting oral sex from an immature intern in the White House, the Dems were outraged over “personal matters being made public and poor St. Hillary being made a victim.

The survival of western civilization is at stake and their candidate is attacked over a private 12 year old conversation followed conveniently by unsubstantiated accusations, some of which have ALREADY been discounted, and the Paul Ryans and other surender monkeys run the White flag and abandon ship.

The French army has more guts than the GOP establishment and THAT is the real problem - not an inappropriate conversation or “binders full of women”, or even mainstream media smears.

What is particularly galling is that from ther sniper’s perch, the MSM is taking the position of moral superiority. They’re looking down on Trump and all other Republicans with disgust.

As if those in the media have led the lives of Puritans. Members of the press at the level of covering presidential candidates are not legendary for their temperance. Nor are they highly regarded for their sexual restraint. Just one example: Fox’s Ed Henry and his wife bought a vacation condo in Las Vegas. Ed promptly installed a hooker in it. I don’t recall a great hue and cry from the media over it.

These folks who lie for the Rats. The folks who cheat for the Rats. The folks who collude and conspire for the Rats. They seem to think none of them will ever pay a price. THAT is what needs to change. These folks can’t all have 24/7 bodyguard protection. They go to grocery stores or drug stores. They need to start getting a fractured mandible while standing in line. Lois Lerner, fer instance. These people need to pay a price and if our corrupt gummint is not going to we have to do it ourselves.

THAT is when it will stop.
