NFL ratings plunge could spell doom for traditional TV
Washington Post ^ | October 14, 2016 | Drew Harwell and Rick Maese

Football, America’s biggest prime-time powerhouse, has been thrust into a crisis this fall, with dwindling ratings sparking questions over whether it can remain a gold mine for television in an age when more Americans are abandoning traditional TV.

Network executives have long used the National Football League’s live games as a last line of defense against the rapid growth of “cord-cutting” and on-demand viewing upending the industry.

But now, the NFL is seeing its ratings tumble in the same way that the Olympics, awards shows and other live events have, falling more than 10 percent for the first five weeks of the season compared with the first five weeks of last season. A continued slide, executives say, could pose an even bigger danger: If football can’t survive the new age of TV, what can?

I don’t know about your area but in mine they have started introducing VIP theatres alongside the regular multiplexes to counter that problem. They serve food and alcohol in your seats so that eliminates anyone underage (read rowdy teens). The price is double a regular movie ticket which also keeps out the riffraff. The seats are bigger leather loungers with much more legroom. The washrooms are individual and have a real flower in a vase in them. Only been once for a freebie preview but it ain’t the old Bijou thats for sure. The trouble for me is it has to be a pretty darn special movie for me to drop $25 a ticket and nothing has yet come along to justify it.

I got tired of watching the replays of 2 seconds of football followed by 10 seconds of dancing & posing.

All of you Deplorables are treading on thin ice. If you aren’t careful the Washington Pustule will unleash Dana Milbank to give you a really stern

I’m not going to tune in to watch a bunch of millionaire crybabies complain about how bad they have it. There’s no shortage of countries in the world where your ass would be jailed or dead. Might want to ponder than, Colin.

The decline started long before but the Michael Sam to-do and the PSAs from players suggesting male viewers beat their wives (projection much?) were two big pivot points.

And the Compost is incapable of seeing any common thread behind the decline of those three PC cesspools.

NFL: Players dissing the flag and the country
Olympics: An opening ceremony saturated with leftist propaganda that left this Olympics fan completely uninterested in watching these games
Award shows: Insults, one after another mocking the Conservative point of view

I am heartened to learn that our resentment is hitting home in the form of concrete numbers where it hurts. It’s comical to see them blame it on cord-cutting.

And not one college football game or college event of colleges and universities receiving public tax money or student loans, should be allowed contracts with pay-for access television networks.

““If football can’t survive the new age of TV, what can?”

College football.”

Colleges should cancel their athletic programs as well.Just how to they do one damned thing to further the education process? It’s bad enough that our colleges and universities are run by a bunch of over paid knownothing liberals, but you don’t have to compound the problem by allowing idiots to attend so they can “play gladiators” on the weekends.
