I think Obama wants to lose a ton of military assets, pilots included.

He’s trying to find an aspirin factory to bomb to distract from the election, and try to find a reason to cancel the election.

The U.S. et al will not be granted any military options (congress or not), unless officially requested & approved by the Syrian government. Then can be considered, by the U.S., congress, et al.

Syria, like Iraq and Libya (that were messed up), is a sovereign nation. The U.S. et al have no right to be in Syria, or Syrian airspace.

No more overt or covert operations (ISIS and so forth).

Best to stay out and deal with problems within the U.S., itself.

Why do we care what the Russians do in Syria? Let them get it over, reinstall Assad and let the regime mop up the pieces. There is no positive outcome except stability and if that comes from a totalitarian regime so be it. That is the only form of government that works when dealing with muslims.

There won’t be a war with Russia. Putin is way to much of a pussy to ever engage the U. S. Military. Look at the countries he attacks and bullies. All much smaller and not able to fight back.

“One alternative, U.S. officials said, is allowing allies to provide U.S.-vetted rebels with more sophisticated weapons, although not shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, which Washington fears could be used against Western airliners.”

Vetted to be on our side, but we worry they might shoot down western airliners in terror attacks. That about says it all.

I dont get it !

US officials pretend they are fighting "Islamic State", while at the same time supporting them to remove Assad so the EU/USD can loot Russian assets brokered through Syria (like they did in Libya) ?

..BIZARRE !

REBEL = US backed mercenary hired to remove Assad

more moderate, more vetted than your average run of the mill ISIS member

Yup. I truly believe Trump and Putin will develop a mutual respect for each other even though their positions are adversarial.

Speaking of shoulder-fired missiles.... did the Obama regime ever tell us what happened to Ghadafi’s 20,000 Manpads that went missing?

The ones that they now claim they don’t want the “rebels” (human-heart-eating Islamists possessed by demons and promising to come for America once they’ve finished off Syria...) to have because they could be used to down commercial planes?

20,000 commercial airplanes downed would be serious doo-doo. Gee, too bad those Manpads got “lost”...

I agree. A competitor is not necessarily your enemy. Sometimes you can watch each other and learn a thing or two.

I recall reading that Gorbachev and the other Soviet leaders respected Reagan because his word was good. With Carter, they never knew where they stood from one week to the next.

Putin is an SOB but he’s an SOB for Mother Russia. If he wants to engage in military adventures in the Middle East, let him. After all, look how well it’s worked out for us.

He has an excellent chance of punching the Tar Baby for a long, long time, just like the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Of course, the only good Moslem is a dead Moslem, so the more trouble Putin stirs up the better, just as long as we’re not involved.

All we should care about is oil and helping Israel. Otherwise, Vlady can have the entire region if he wants it — after all, Russia is hurting for money and he has to sell the petroleum on the open market.

‘Some top officials argue the United States must act more forcefully in Syria or risk losing what influence it still has ...’

If they want influence, they should quit worrying about all the bribe money they raked in to take out Assad!

Assad is an enemy of ISIS. Assad is a secularist who allowed Christians to live peacefully in his land.

So if Obama wants influence, get on board with the only sane policy that remains: Russia’s policy.

We left Iraq, and now our influence is lost, broken.
