Boston officers remain in critical condition (info on suspect)
Boston Globe ^ | 10/13/16 | Laura Crimaldi and John Element

Posted on 10/13/2016 7:13:38 AM PDT by raccoonradio

Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans said the two officers wounded in a shootout in East Boston Wednesday night are out of surgery, but remain in extremely critical condition. (snip) The commissioner identified the suspect as Kirk Figueroa, 33. A Ford Crown Victoria with the name of a website, Elite Policing.org, was towed from the scene by police Thursday morning.

(Note: Figeroa was killed.)
On the website, a man who identifies himself as Kirk Figueroa describes himself as a former member of a US Army Reserves military police unit who works as a bounty hunter in California, is trained in mixed martial arts and has worked as both a home health care aide and a corrections officer.

Wearing a red beret in a photo of himself, the man identified as Kirk Figueroa also claimed to be a constable in the city of Boston.

According to City Council minutes, Figueroa was approved to be a constable by the council in April 13 following a background investigation by Boston police. He was one of several whose nomination was approved on a voice vote as a constable, who are authorized to serve legal papers connected to civil litigation.

Separately, Evans said police are now trying to learn what prompted Figueroa to put on a bullet proof vest and open fire with an assault rifle and handgun on police as they responded to investigate a fight between roommates.

He said a suspect - now identified as Figueroa - armed with an assault rifle and a ballistic vest fired at police, striking the two officers, and their fellow officers moved them to safety and returned fire, killing the heavily armed man.

The story doesnt make much sense. On one hand they seem to have been called for a ‘domestic distrubance...which are always dangerous’ on the other theyre puzzled why he fired on police. I think its too early to tell exactly what happened. Will be interesting to hear the correct story.

In addition to BLM, is it possible the (dead) perp was also an “Aloha Snackbar?”

Nah, too much of a stretch...

The police and constabulary shooting each other.
Same old Boston as ever.

Not enough information to determine anything here.

How would that have helped in this case?

Constables are peace officers. In most places they are a more limited version of the sheriff. Many are elected.

Apparently, they are appointed by the city council in Boston, and do not appear to be exempted from firearms law by their status in Massachusetts.

I’m reading this as a guy who is a serious “wannabe” with a website and delusions of grandeur.
