Hillary raises eyebrows with Muslim claim

Were Muslims partially responsible for American independence?

Hillary Clinton raised eyebrows with a questionable claim during Sunday’s fiery presidential debate by stating Islam was always part of American history – even since the Revolutionary War.

After recycling the Khizir Khan controversy, the Democrat nominee claimed “we’ve had Muslims in America since George Washington.”

Sorry, my point was that there were many men of color in our army and in the sate militias, but only three names that could be said to be Muslim. These names are the exception that proves the rules (there were very few if any Muslim among the black patriots in our amy during the Revolution).

yes there were muslims in US apparently before columbus according to some simple searches - a Harvard project webpage said maybe as far back as 1200’s a PBS History detective link said 1300”s and both said for sure when slaves were being brought in

1200s and 1300s? That I've never heard (to use Trumpian phraseology). However I do believe some slaves and slave traders who entered North America post-1600 were Muslim.

In any case, Hillary is throwing out another red herring with this claim. No one, to my knowledge, has disputed the idea that Muslims --a few-- were around the time of the Revolution.

What we do dispute is OBAMA'S claim that Islam has always been part of our founding fabric. That claim is absolutely false.

As posted above, Jefferson studied a Koran to try to understand our ENEMY, the Islamic BARBARY PIRATES - not in order to include any Islamic tenets in our founding documents.

Unfortunately it’s not just Democrats who are eager to inflict Islam on America, it’s Bush and Ryan and other neverTrump Republicans collaborating with Hillary.

“These muslims bring nothing of value to this nation. In fact, over 90% will be collecting welfare (US tax dollars) for many years to come.”

Somalis and probably other Muslims are practicing polygamy by having their 2nd and 3rd wives living as single mothers paid for by our taxes.

Barbary pirates. They plagued the shipping of the young U.S.A. Thomas Jefferson had a few quotes, and later John Quincy Adams.

Yes, Muslims have been “part of America” since the early days, and in the same way.

If I get the chance, I’ll try to post a stand-alone Clinton Foundation report.

They’ve seen my stuff posted many times. Some FReepers are tired of hearing about it, I fear.

Agree. It’s not just democrats pushing for harm to the USA. It’s also a lot of liberal republicans. There is no common sense to them wanting to bring muslims to this nation. They cost us so much and are a threat to our security.

“The shores of Tripoli” is from the Marine Corps Hymn not the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

That comment struck me as odd, it means nothing. However there were clearly some Muslims here at the time. Records are hard to come by.

The usual claims relate to Luis de Torres Columbus' translator since he spoke Arabic. Hebrew, Portugese, Aramaic claiming Jewish conversos were Muslim. A slave, Estevanico, was shipwrecked off Florida in the early 16th century, traveling through the southwest to Mexico City. No doubt some slaves were Muslim.

Numbers are hard to come by. At the time of the Civil War there were about 150,000 Jews in the US, about 0.5% of the population. Records seem to indicate about 8,000 to 10,000 fought on both sides. Per Wiki 292 Muslims fought in the Civil War, one reaching the rank of Captain. Don't know how they got such a precise number. These numbers would imply a rather speculate muslim population of about 0.0018% at the time of the civil war.

I've no doubt there were numerous individuals of other relibions here at the time as well. IMO for Hillary to establish a claim of significance of the Muslim community at the time of the Revolution. You find prominent Jews, prominent blacks, prominent Indians (natives if you prefer). I'm not aware of a significant Muslim contribution. Presumably Hillary isn't either, else it would be mentioned. And that's likely a function of a tiny population.

This is part of the “leave no disaffected special interest group unturned” approach that Obama pioneered. Obama has imported the better fraction of a million Muslims; those that vote need to be motivated to turn out, as they will probably be 90% Dem votes.

Note that the current practice is to describe as ‘Muslim’ pagans who were forcibly converted to Islam and subsequently became Christians one way or another.

It’s a claim that is impossible to prove or disprove.

I didn’t say “hymn” because I didn’t want someone jumping at my cyber throat claiming I was being sacrilegious by calling it a hymn - its proper name!

I have a very strong feeling that if in 1492 Trump financed a trip to ??????? and C Columbus and his 3 rowboats set off with a bunch of Shanghaied crews, HRC would be sitting on the dock telling all that the 3 ships would sail off the edge.

And algore etal would be standing by her side ...

AND, when C Columbus and his merry band returned, HRC etal would have been on that same dock to collect taxes from the adventurers...

IMNSHO.

The Marine Corps Hymn shows us how long Muslims have been involved with our history. Even at the founding of the USMC, they were just as involved in America as they are today.

“From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores or Tripoli . . .”
