Actually, secession is authorized and written in the Constitution:

Tenth Amendment - Reserved Powers. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

” Yes, because it was a rebellion and needed to be suppressed. “

That’s what George III said in his message to Parliament in 1775. Like Lincoln, he refused to accept the claim of the locals to leave his government and he resented them firing on his occupation force.

“Yes, because it was a rebellion and needed to be suppressed.”

The same is true of the American Revolution.

” There is no right of secession written into the Constitution. “

There’s no prohibition either, unsurprising in a country born in secession from London only 90 years earlier. New England had threatened secession a couple of times including over the war of 1812, see the Essex Junto.

The secession occurred while James Buchanan was President and although he thought secession was illegal he also didn’t believe that the national government had a right to prevent states from seceding. Congress was divided on the issue and no one could point to anything clear on the issue, so it was hardly clear cut. Instead of dealing with the crisis politically Lincoln called up an army to send against what he considered American citizens and not a newly independent nation.

Other than that the language isn't American vernacular George III's Proclamation of Rebellion reads like Lincoln.

“Because they knew that it would end the right to Freedom of Association!! “

That’s what Goldwater, Reagan and the other conservatives saw in the 1964 Civil Rights Act and it morphed into something worse than even they predicted. Americans are essentially subjects whose personal lives are controlled by bureaucrats who decide what that law means.

“She lied, and now she’s blaming the lie on the late great Abraham Lincoln.”

“Honest Abe never lied,” he added. “That’s the big difference between Abraham Lincoln and you.”

At the debate, she said this remark followed the release of the film Lincoln — which depicted the iconic president’s efforts to get Congress to ratify the 13th Amendment, prohibiting slavery — and was meant to illustrate how the 16th president had governed so successfully.

Do we know the date of the speech in which Hillary made her comment about holding"private" and "public" views on a topic?

And has it been cross-checked with the date of release of the Spielberg movie?

Just wondering. I suppose her tale of being inspired by the movie was thoroughly vetted by her staff, but would like to see those two dates.

The Constitution is very clear that there is no secession and thus, those States who are not upholding Federal laws are in rebellion.

The fact that Buchanan did nothing is not relevant.

When Calhoun started making noise about SC seceding, Andrew Jackson said he would hang him.

New England did threaten secession, and the Federalist Party never recovered from that act of treason.

And it was the Southern States who rejected the right to do so!

We wrote a Declaration of Independence stating why we were leaving England.

The South had no just cause to leave the Union, except the fact that they didn't like the idea of slavery being limited from the new States.

Well, those in Britain who supported the American cause, like Edmund Burke, stated it was the English who were in rebellion, by denying the Americans their natural rights as Englishmen.

The South had no just cause to attempt to leave the Union.

That says nothing about secession!

I don't see the word secession anywhere in the phrase.

You guys are like Liberals who like to find concepts that don't exist.

The 10 Amendment was written to restrict Federal Power, not to give the right of secession.

Madison rejected the notion of secession!

So, the fact that the Constitution does not limit the Federal Government to stop secession, doesn’t give that right to the States and the people? Are you saying that if it is not specifically written into the 10th, then the 10th doesn’t cover that topic?

According to your analysis and understanding, the 10th doesn’t cover anything at all - talk about a Liberal thought process!!

So, if your forefathers signed you into a contract, no matter how bad or incorrect for you and your future children, you think you should be bound by your forefathers decision? Regardless of current conditions?
