I believe the police officer should have waited until there was a threat to her safety or the safety of others before shooting the man.

Have you ever seen video of just how fast someone can pull a gun and start shooting? And you failed to answer as to why BOTH cops fired at the same time - which means both saw something that triggered a response.

You really are being obtuse in your demands of the cops here - so further debate is pointless. Later.

Wow, your last sentence confirms exactly what I asserted about you in my post.

That makes no sense to me. Why would a armed cop with at least 2 other cops backing her up, probably wearing a vest, facing an unarmed person, trained for and accustomed to confrontation, be under more stress than the unarmed citizen. I agree you need to listen to cops or clearly they will kill you, but the point was if stress is an excuse for not hearing, cops should assess the situation and not assume their commands were heard.

Focus, not stress is the issue here.

She was focusing so hard on the person she stopped and considered a threat, that everything else was blocked.

You are arguing he was focusing so hard on the person he considered a threat, that he blocked HER out. I don’t think that makes sense.

If something is a threat to your life, that something is going to be your sole focus. I think your argument fails.

Something was going on with this guy.

Something he did caused her to take her gun out. Even then he refused to obey her commands.

I’m not saying it was a righteous shoot. Could be one of those officers coming up behind her startled her and she fired off a round.

This will come out eventually.

This reply; is meant to a general sense "That this female cop was THAT stressed in this encounter, indicates she is not suited to be a cop."

Hand-gun class I took in the early to mid 1980's ($150.00, then) given by a mix of F.B.I. Local Sheriff's, etc.

They told us about a very long day-light to nite-time steak-out of a suspect, room they entered was first lite-up (just enough, not to have to turn a light on) by the outside street-light. Shooting started just after entry, night vision was gone (via combination everybody shooting {three shooters total, two cops & one bad guy}) and then between the two cops (arguing / fighting) who was going to turn on the lights, because they thought they could hear the suspect breathing.

Purpose of the story was to DEMONSTRATE, just how a HIGH STRESS encounter, can play on your brain / thought process.

After somebody turned on the lights, the suspect was long DEAD, hence no breathing sounds from the suspect. Between the two cops; neither one knows for sure, who turned on the lights.

The above is the very short Cliff-notes version, but true. Total time in the above situation was like 10 or 20 min's, based on the call to headquarters, (no cell-phones then) hey we see the guy, we're going in, to calling in an officer(s) involved shooting.

Something he did caused her to take her gun out. Even then he refused to obey her commands.

And something happened after that which caused both her to fire her weapon and the other cop to fire his Taser. That is the point too many people miss here - she wasn't the only one who reacted - someone else reacted in a similar matter at the same time. Something that can be hard to see from a video shot from well overhead.

The offixer who shot was a DRE and got there first. I bet she saw the signs of pcp use and was rightly afraid.

Note sure how her agency trains but a physical affirmative pat in the shoulder along with anouncing verbally is common practice many olaces.

To say that walking away from a police officer is threatening enough to justify shooting him is ludicrous.

Upon further review, you are a moron. They did not shoot him as we walked away. BOTH OFFICERS fired at the same time in response to something he did by the car.

You have erected strawman after strawman on this thread. Like most of the cop bashers do. And I am more than willing to have cops held accountable for wrongful conduct. But you are someone who apparently thinks a perp has to draw a gun and start shooting before cops can rightfully return fire themselves.

You are now on my small list of FReepers with worthless points of view.

Darn straight, Cops should shoot perps before they have a chance to even think of pulling out a gun,

Great. Another strawman-erecting moron. Just what we need in this debate. Isn’t there some safe-space BLM rally you can attend tonight?

I haven’t read much or studied the video.

I wasn’t aware of that but you’re darn right it is a big deal.

I’ve remained rather neutral on this one.

There are factors that figure in and I’ve tried to play devil’s advocate in a way so people can say, “Oh yeah, I’ve seen that too. It’s happened to me at times.”

It’s just a good idea to understand the concepts, them factor them in.

I hate to see anyone shot to be honest. If a guy is clearly bad, it’s definitely necessary. This guy by all reports seems to have been iffy.

I’ve allowed room for her to be wrong. I’m not here to unfairly support her if she’s done wrong. I’m not here to unfairly support him if he was an idiot.

I appreciate you filling in that blank for me. Again, that is a big deal. Something happened...
