Five days after the worst defeat of his political career, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize....

The award was a surprise because Colombians voted Sunday against Santos’s peace accord, which many viewed as too generous to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Santos was considered a leading candidate for the prize prior to the referendum, but his chances seemed to fade after voters sunk the deal by a narrow margin.

Offering a window into Nobel deliberations, the committee said its members were conscious that the Colombian peace efforts were imperiled and wanted to offer a boost.

...and Reagan/Thatcher would have never been nominated for ending the Cold War.

After it was given to a nobody who in 8 years has done nothing I would say the prize you get in a crackerjack box has more prestige

Should’ve given it to the Columbian People who refused to deal with Communists, but want Victory for Freedom instead.

“the committee said its members were conscious that the Colombian peace efforts were imperiled and wanted to offer a boost.”

Activism vs accomplishment. Nothing but a participation trophy.

It would have been infinitely better to award the Nobel Prize to the late Roberto D’Aubisson for his heroic efforts to end that conflict in, well, a different and more desirable way.

My nominees are: Reagan/Thatcher.

They eliminated the biggest threat to the world in the last 70 or so years.

Another “nominee”: nuclear bombs, which brought about the MAD (mutually assured destruction) that served to keep WWIII for happening. Nothing else has gone towards keeping the peace as much as the A-bomb/nuclear bomb.

Another, but most important nominee: The U.S. Armed Forces, and the reason should be self-explanatory.

No other nominees or recipients of the Peace Prize, come close.

Obama had done as much in 2008 to be nominated, as any other citizen of the U.S. All 300 million+ of Americans should get a peace prize, since, it’s us that have kept the world in relative peace for most of the last 80 or so years.
