Russia has warned the United States not to intervene militarily in Syria against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, threatening that it may shoot down any aircraft attempting to launch strikes.

In a bluntly worded statement, a spokesman for Russia’s defense ministry warned that Russia and the Syrian government had deployed sufficient air defenses to block any potential attacks.

Helping erase the lines in the Middle East drawn by the British and French that have helped cause many messes, and replacing it with a much bigger mess.

I suspect we are creating a Darwin-style survival furball battle which will ultimately result in a single faction uniting all of Islam under one rule in a caliphate.

So that ISIS and the ‘rebels’ can kill them instead.

I am a lot more interested in the survival of Christianity — including in the Middle East, where it’s clear some Freepers STILL haven’t figured it out.

Just put all the Christians in one place and call it Lebanon. Make the Saudis pay for it just like the Mexican thing.

The global elite hate Assad for the same reasons they turned on Saddam and Gaddafi. They want the region to be shared by Tehran and Ankara so he must be killed.

Exactly!

Assad wasn’t threatening us by word or action. It was a domestic issue.

You got some pinheads involved, Obama, Clinton, McCain, and they decided we had wanted Assad gone for decades, so why not?

We’ll, now we know why not. Some of us knew before this, you just don’t arm al Qaeda members and expect things to wind up spiffy.

Our Three Stooges wound up doing what Three Stooges generally do. They royally screwed things up.

Let’s just hope Trump wins and is installed before Obama gets us in WWIII.

Congress should pass a no confidence vote making it clear it won’t back direct hostility towards Russia.

Of course that IS asking a body that has been mute for eight years to find a backbone... And no, one recent veto over-ride does not a backbone make.

Never fear, Kerry is negotiating with Russia I am sure it will all be fine. Oh wait he suspended talks with them on Monday I think...That might have been the same day they opened fallout shelters in Moscow...What could possibly go wrong?

Or they are not Christian and don’t care about Christians but only in temporary geo-strategic advantages. AKA, neocons.

“We’re in Syria because the Saudis purchased our foreign policy.”

That could well be the answer.

We seem to have oozed into a fight there with none of us having a good idea of why or even when it got started.

Any one with sense could predict that the Russians would defend their long time ally Assad and access to their Mediterranean sea base. This has the risk of spinning into something much bigger than a fight over who runs Syria.

“Unlike Libya or Syria - Obama is going to stumble into a war with an enemy that can hit back hard”

Didn’t Israel destroy Syria’s last batch of S300 batteries?

“Why are we in Syria anyway?”

This is why:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar-Turkey_pipeline

>>>The Qatar-Turkey pipeline is a proposed natural gas pipeline running from the Iranian-Qatari South Pars / North Dome Gas-Condensate field towards Turkey, where it could connect with the Nabucco pipeline to supply European customers as well as Turkey. One route to Turkey is via Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Syria,[1][2] and another is through Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq.[3][4] Syria’s rationale for rejecting the Qatar proposal was said to be “to protect the interests of [its] Russian ally, which is Europe’s top supplier of natural gas.”[1]<<<

When Syria refused to let the pipeline be built across their territory then Obama, Hillary, and McCain and etc. decided that Assad “had to go” and they armed ISIS to overthrow Assad. Then when Assad fought back the US started waging an undeclared and illegal war against Syria to facilitate the pipeline. The pipeline would undercut Russia’s stranglehold on natural gas in Europe and that undercuts Putins plans for a revived USSR.

That’s why we’re there.

Well, the way the thinking goes, Assad is creating lots of refugees, see, and those refugees are creating lots of scepticism in the EU populace regarding the EU - so if the EU disintegrates then this is a threat to US security. Ergo, Assad is more of a threat to the US than the Islamic extremists and he must be removed.
