Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 10/06/2016 4:10:09 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

Don’t know about the big power companies, but the EMCs are self funded on these co-op emergency trips. Thats what the newsletter from my EMC said back during Super Storm Sandy. We paid to send them help and the SOBs turned them away because they were non-union. Our guys were there with their tools and trucks, ready to help, they turned around and came home.

We have crews already in S Fla today.

Severe wind damage will be confined to the immediate coast and first teir counties.

A ton of valuable real estate in those counties.

Fresh water flooding will be sporadic.

Check the GFS rainfall map in post 319 and get back to me.

It was, if I remember correctly it wasn’t expected to loop. We had thrown all the granite back on the bulkhead, found the deck from the pier in the woods and were hoping to use part of it. Tied it to a tree so it wouldn’t float away with the second pass but the waves broke it apart. And that wasn’t a strong storm

The most expensive property is ocean front. Be it single homes or high-rises.

Those high rises will be broken glass shredding machines.

GFS overdoes rainfall in hear situations. It has a thermal feedback issues and overdoes it. 7 day Euro has a max of 8 as does the WPC 7 day QPF. As I said, sporadic.

As I said, sporadic.

Eight inches on saturated ground and storm surge pushing inland up streams would still be some bad flooding.

"At one point we took a 48 degree roll to starboard followed by a 57 degree roll to port. That's a 105 degree swing in about 25 seconds. "

That's unbelieveable. Lucky you survived.

“...usualy via Hurricane Hunter aircraft...”

I’m not a big fan of flying even in good weather.

I can’t even imagine what it feels like to be on one of those planes as it’s going thru a ‘cane.

I am "downcasting the potential"?

You are accusing me of saying that the theoretical worst case imaginable, which always receives the most publicity because TV has minutes to sell and forecasters and government all have butts to cover, probably won't happen?

OK, guilty. The theoretical worst case imaginable, which always receives the most publicity because TV has minutes to sell and forecasters and government all have butts to cover, probably won't happen.

Now go and tell the mods.

Removing emergency personnel in an emergency? I’m sorry but that’s just not right. There are storm shelters for this purpose.

I remember sitting in a lifeguard tower at a Cape Canaveral beach in 2005 watching Ophelia just sort of drift up the coast. It was no Katrina or Matthew but it was massive and the eye was probably 70 miles from shore at the time.

CNN and MSNBC are avoiding the Republican governor who is currently being praised.

Bill the sleaze Nelson is going for face time.

msnbc is pushing some unknown hitlaryesqe local official.

Nelson is just repeating what the governor said and nelson is (D btw) invoking Katrina.

Hillary just pulled all her just purchase weather channel ads.

FYI to all. The dems are talking, Trump actually has property IN florida. (remember Maro Largo? Condos? golf courses?)

The mayor of Jacksonville made it very clear if you don’t evacuate you WILL be on your own. No 1st responders will come to your aid during the actual storm. We live in the Windy Hills area which is not under a evacuation area but we are watching things closely.

Vote Trump 2016

You really are a pinhead. I am saying the worst case has to be presented and planned for, for the 1 in 3 times that does happen - because if they don't, there could be massive loss of life. It would be irresponsible to do otherwise.

We had all kinds of posters downcasting Sandy four years ago. All it did was cause over fifty billion in damages.
