Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 10/06/2016 4:10:09 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

Close friends have a really cool loft in an historic building in downtown Beaufort. I’m thinking the ground floor gets flooded out.

Im pretty familiar with that entire area up there.Savannah-Moorehead. There are hundreds of little and much bigger creeks and rivers that could flood. I don’t think it will take too much rain to cause numerous floods, its just a matter of how bad they will be.Not good.

A record rainfall of 8.94 inches was set at Savannah GA yesterday.
This breaks the old record of 2.81 set in 1946.

Storm surge, reported by tide gage.

The National ocean service tide gauge in Charleston
Harbor peaked at 9.29 feet above mean lower low water.
This ranks as the 3rd highest high tide on record and
the highest since hurricane Hugo in 1989.

Down to 85 mph as of 8AM Saturday advisory. That means tropical storm force winds at the coast. Main threat now is flooding from rainfall and occasional tornadoes.

Those too, although hopefully that threat will diminish as the winds continue to decline over time. Hopefully the storm will keep moving along and not stall out.
