Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 10/06/2016 4:10:09 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

You’re right, my sister’s place is two blocks off the beach, definately not where you want to be IMHO. But I think that anyone who stays should accept full responsibility for their safety through the storm and not expect any outside help until the most immediate danger passes.

If Matthew and Nicole merge, they could form Superstorm Tranny.

I’ll go away now...

Two satellite images were taken 24 hours apart, on Thursday and Friday, showing how much power has been knocked out in the state overnight.

This is what Matthew was capable of - Freeport spent an extended time in the right-front eyewall:

Grand Bahama Suffers Significant Damage As Matthew Roars Through

NINETY five per cent of the buildings in the Eight Mile Rock and Holmes Rock areas in Grand Bahama received significant damage from Hurricane Matthew on Thursday night and Friday morning, Brenda Colebrooke, the island administrator for West Grand Bahama, said. #"Portions of the homes were blown out and roofs were completely blown off," she told The Tribune shortly before 9am on Friday as authorities began making initial assessments of the damage the category 4 storm caused in Grand Bahama.

#There were, however, no reports of lives lost.

#"We had some very, very high winds," Ms Colebrooke said. "We think we caught 140mph conditions in the west. We had people still stuck in the west end area, reaching out for help. Right now we're trying to clear roads to make them passable. Our team has not reported back yet though."

I think that was at cat 5 when it hit there...or at least 4.....but still when this goes over warm water it can escalate up from the 3 where it's at currently. The real danger for is the storm surge for the areas as tide and waves only add to the surge from the hurricane itself.

The NHC site has been crashing. Otherwise, they might have new links with each statement?

This was at 7:00 today....The area between Melbourne and Jacksonville is bracing itself for winds of up to 115mph on Friday evening, before the storm gradually starts to lose power as it moves up and out back towards the Atlantic
