He’s right, Rush.

You weren’t driving the Trump Train.
Though you were certainly welcome to hop on-board.

Rush is right. This isn't Trump's doing. I've seen increasing discontent from the conservative base for the Washington conservative establishment right here in this forum for at least the last 10 years. It is this phenomenon Ted Cruz hoped he could ride to the nomination until Trump pushed him aside.

Rush is also right that the people who write about American conservatism don't get this because they don't really understand it. But, as always, there are exceptions. In the last year some of the best insight about what is really going on has come from Peggy Noonan and James Taranto of the WSJ. The information is out there but the MSM don't want to see it.

Trump became the candidate because the ‘Pubbies have completely discredited themselves with the conservative base.
We gave them the power to counter Obama and they did - nothing.

This is pure BS. There is no fracture in the conservative movement. There are conservatives and there are pseudo-conservatives. Two different things altogether.

"... we were conservative principles. We are conservative principles. This is the one place where conservative principles have not changed."

Conservative principals...were not arrogant, pompous, over-the-top patrician speech and with pretended aristocratic unfounded blue blood......That is what a Conservative IS NOT....neither was RR...William Buckley was all of the above. WB did have a grand grasp of the English language AND he knew how to use it...however the rest of that aristocratic facade was just that...a myth.

Trump can claim pretty much the same back ground as William B. however, his up-bringing was honest, strong values and appreciation of what hard work can do...Trump is the antitheses of the Buckley Conservative.

Given a choice....I personally like the Trump Conservative; None of the Political Correctness of some of the old and today's newer Conservatives.

There is no definition of "conservatism" that everyone calling themselves a conservative will agree on.

Conservatism in some ways is as much a mental disorder as liberalism.

The GOP committed suicide when it screwed over its voting based by promising it would take Obama on once it controlled Congress. Once it had a majority, it rolled over and played dead and did everything Obama wanted. The GOP was screwed from then on in terms of credibility and conservative loyalty.

Trump is the result of the Republican branch of the Uni-Party screwing over the citizens that voted them into control of both houses of Congress.

Trump is in effect, if not name, a third party candidate.

The so called conservative movement is a fake movement because it has achieved very little which is conservative.

Obamacare defunded?
Wall built on border?
Abortions reduced?
Planned Parenthood defunded?
ISIS defeated?
Less terror attacks worldwide by Islamists?
Less Americans on food stamps?
Americans earning less real wages than 2 decades ago?
Regulations on small business reduced?
National debt reduced? (IN SPITE of US Treasury taking in more revenues than ever)
Less illegals in country than ever?

We’ve built a welfare state over the past 50 years. “Conservatives” didn’t put up much of a fight

We’ve continued unsustainable social welfare programs over the past 50 years, with “Conservative” help

We’ve grown government to an enormous size, we’ve fought wars for Kings overseas, we’ve engaged in nation-building, we’ve wasted countless Trillions of dollars on people who hate us and want to kill us. “Conservatives” were there every step of the way making our government bigger and more invasive and anathema to liberty and freedom.

I’m not sure what anyone has to bitch about when it comes to Trump. There hasn’t been an effective Conservative on the scene in 25 years.
