7 works fine so far for me, I am concerned about security issues with 10 since I have embraced online banking.......

Thoughts?

I have had instances of the Start Menu not working since I first went with 10, back when it was in beta I guess.

It was more frequent back then, but still rare. It would require a restart in order to get it working again, but I have not had this occur in quite some time now. I would say that this was the most frustrating bug I experienced with 10, but it was pretty minor overall.

As far as fast start up goes, yes I think mine is set to that as my PC will only update with a restart, but it will not with shutdown, so I really appreciate the link, I’m going to make sure it’s disabled.

Corporate IT departments are sticking with 7 Pro.

Our corporate security people prefer Win 7 Enterprise. My customers was Win 10 Pro. The corporate IT staff won't authorize Win 10 Pro until a long list of security and compatibility requirements have been met. That list was barely 60% achieved when I asked 6 months ago. I have two good Win 10 Pro 64-bit systems running with quad core i7. The desktop has 32 GB RAM. Laptop has 16 GB RAM. Both work just fine. Both are my personal (not company) machines.

I’m so old that the only ‘game’ I found interesting in my ‘computer life’ was MYST

I couldn't figure out MYST for the life of me.

And the 8 second boot up is nice too.

I liked my Chromebook so much, I bought a Chromebox for my desktop.

It does Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Videos/Music...absolutely everything I want it to do with no anti-virus programs, defragging, blah, blah, blah...all those things that used to bog down my computer.

Just turn it own and go.

take a look at the amazon ratings for this product:

https://www.amazon.com/WinCleaner-Click-Professional-Clean-Version/dp/B0045OVQP0

All auto-cleaners can be extremely dangerous and you risk killing your OS outright, or worse, causing subtle damage. I don’t recommend any of them.

the heavily advertised pcmatic is one of the worse.

It’s terrible, and I wanted to keep windows 7 business pro 64 bit. The pop-up for free upgrade to windows 10 kept popping up and I cancelling, but one day it did it on its own and I hate windows 10 with a passion, you can’t even change the start menu and control panel layouts to windows classic without downloading a third party program. Windows 10 is a joke and Microsoft forced this garbage on us.

Doesn’t hold your hand, and you gotta figure stuff out.

I remember playing Return to Zork without a guide and I couldn’t figure it out.

“As the proud owner of two 1956 Buicks, I resent that comment. The torque ball and the enclosed driveline, however, present major problems.”

My apologies to you! I actually thing Buicks are good cars. I guess I should have said AMC Pacers. An yes, like the old Fords, the torque tube isn’t the best rear drive setup. The old “nail valve” Buick V8’s were cool though.

Eh, I don’t see anything wrong with the layouts. It’s been a while since I’ve seen 7 though. I can’t even really remember what it looks like TBH.

I like the shiny new look. Guess it’s just a matter of preference though.

I found this thread interesting enough to take an old laptop I had and loaded up Linus Mint on it this evening.
Wow, blazing fast over the old Windows 7. So far, I like it but I know see I’m facing a pretty good learning curve in some areas with it.

Corporate IT departments are sticking with 7 Pro.

That's my preference, but in order to manage Exchange 2016/ Exchange Online, you need Windows 8.1 or later. I'm going to have to move to Windows 10 before too long...

The one thing that's really killing the adoption of Linux is the iffy support for iTunes. I've got a couple of friends who have all their music on iTunes, and through none of them have Macs, they're tied to Windows for just that reason.

It seems to me that the port to Linux would be relatively easy from the Mac, but that would upset MS.

If not for that, they'd switch to Linux in a second.
