Gov. Rick Scott Issues State of Emergency For All Counties in Florida Ahead of Hurricane Matthew

As Hurricane Matthew churns across the Caribbean, Florida officials are preparing in the event the category 4 storm moves closer toward the Sunshine State.

While visiting the City of Hialeah Emergency Operations Center Monday, Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for all counties in Florida

Scott signed the executive order to ensure counties have resources for evacuations and shelters.

"If Hurricane Matthew directly impacts Florida, there could be massive destruction which we haven't seen since Hurricane Andrew devastated Miami-Dade County in 1992," said Scott.

The governor also said the National Guard is standing by if needed. He added that officials are taking steps to move additional fuel to the state's east coast.

The eye of the approaching Category 4 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph as of the 2 p.m. advisory, was expected to pass to the east of Jamaica and then approach the southwestern tip of Haiti late Monday or early Tuesday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

If God destroyed New Orleans because of the Gay Pride event, he MISSED most of the celebrants. The French Quarter-hotbed of depravity- was barely touched. Events were cancelled, yes, but the people who suffered most ( Lower 9th and Lakeview) were mostly regular folks who didn’t deserve to lose everything or die in their attics. I don’t think God misses when it comes to divine retribution. Timing could be argued-I support Israel too- but too many undeserving suffer and too many deserving of a smiting go right on prospering. Gay Pride events are bigger than ever. One REALLY spooky/unexplained thing is the ‘magnetic attraction of the tiny Mississippi coastline for killer hurricanes. I’d like to see that explained scientifically!!

Sorry, I can’t help you. I just have regular homeowners insurance which may or may not cover what I would need in case some trees came down on my home. I would not have flood damage because my house is at a high enough elevation to avoid flooding. I guess I better call State Farm to see what I have just in case.......thanks for the reminder.

I have called to cancel my reservation at Wrightsville Beach (near Wilmington, NC). The person at the hotel says they are recommending that people cancel and not reschedule because they don’t know what kind of damage they are going to incur.

I am currently reading Death and Honor by W.E.B. Griffin about the OSS efforts to stop Germany from using Argentina as a resupply point for their U boats, and as a money drop for use by Nazi elite after they lost the war. This is a fact based historical novel. I also read recently that the Japanese had flirted with Muslims as a way to encourage them to fight the “Christian” nations. They apparently also made efforts in Latin America to indicate that they liked Catholicism to encourage them to fight the Protestant nations.

In N. Carolina they do that for snowstorms too. My dad is in Winston-Salem, but he grew up in western Michigan. Lake effect snow up to your ass every winter. they get a couple of inches in NC they all run out and buy bread and milk. My dad laughs his ass off every time.
