Late Saturday, the Times revealed that Trump had declared a $916 million loss in 1995, wiping out any federal taxes that year and setting himself up to avoid 18 years of similar obligations.
The Times story was a rare animal, a bombshell based on a source whose identity is unknown even to people at the news organization that broke the story. Although anonymous sources are commonly used by journalists to elicit sensitive information, reporters almost always know their identity, even if they dont disclose their names to readers or viewers.
That doesnt appear to be the case in the Times story, which carried the bylines of four reporters, including Craig and David Barstow, an investigative reporter who has won three Pulitzer Prizes.

Hillary Clinton Returns to Ohio in a Changed Race
Correction: The media WANTS it to be a “bombshell.”
I wouldn't be surprised to see that as the next pushed story by the MSM and the Hillary campaign.
Gee, who runs the IRS? Hmmm? Such a big mystery? I wonder who could POSSIBLY have leaked Trump’s IRS tax forms. Hmmm? Certainly not the squeaky clean IRS. They NEVER go after conservatives.
Why aren’t there Democrats wasting away in prison from the massive corruption in this administration. Why aren’t Lerner and the current IRS chief doing hard time behind bars?
Oh yeah, right. Democrats are ABOVE THE LAW.
I thought it was from the State of NY? Read that somewhere.
Some other report said it came with a return address to Trump Tower.
Perhaps Trump released it to stop it from being an issue during election - preempt the last minute dirty trick.
IRS was weaponized targeting conservative groups. So could be them as well.
Interesting the celebration of leaks by the left after Hillary a few weeks ago was calling for bombing Russia over ‘hacking.’
I am not sure why it is a “bombshell” story. He filed his taxes, he is a big businessman, he lost several millions that year, did he lie about it or cheat or something? If not why is it a bombshell?
Net operating loss carryovers are not “bombshells.”
Illegally publishing tax returns, on the other hand....
Bombshell my a$$.
Hitlery and Obama get away with every crime imaginable (and then some), jeopardize national security, etc., but Donald Trump has a loss on his former Atlantic City casinos 21 years ago and it’s the crime of the century.
Enjoy the Iranian nuke when it detonates over D.C., morons at the Washington Compost.
“If not why is it a bombshell?”

Because a bunch of left-wing pant loads at that rag known as The Washington Post said so.
Stand by for the Media to be shortly Hoist by their own Petard....someting like this
Why is it a “bombshell”? He didn’t break any laws. I see a lot of desperate wishful thinking from the left. This will be a good test to see if Trump can keep his cool and turn this back on his enemies.
Some old woman from the NYT was bragging about finding these documents in her mailbox. Could she or the Times be prosecuted, or sued by Trump, for publishing them?
Just wondering are the papers running around over Trump’s legal tax filing of 20 years ago, even discussing that Assange may drop a real bombshell on Hillary on Tuesday?
The only bombshell is when TRUMP’S lawyers ascend on the perpetrators.
Yes, this is the usual biased MSM idiocy..... there is no “bomobshell” story at all.... it was long known that Trump’s interests took heavy losses in the early ‘90s, that he weathered the storm, and came back stronger than ever. This merely puts a number on it, but adds nothing to the public’s understanding of Trump, this campaign, or the decision on November 8.
Typical Mediascum propaganda....
Thank you.
I told myself SEVEN Times this morning, in DEEP concentration, that I was 200 pounds.
Would’t you know, when I weighed myself I wasn’t?
Just because you want something to be true dont make it so.
nobody gives a flying #### about this story.
If anything, they’re thinking “how can i cut my tax bill!?” or “He knows the loopholes and how to close them!”
I also think Trump gave them the story.
If you notice how quick Trump’s team was ready with the NY Times tax return....they had it bundled up and prepared. They knew what would occur. And shortly after that....Hillary’s tax return was also noted with her doing the same trick as Donald.
The question would therefor be...is anyone willing to change the tax code from 70,000 pages down to five to ten pages, and make a flat tax across the board for the public? Ask Hillary about fixing this and she will just grin because it’ll never happen with her.
