Outrageous, this never ever ever should be done in any civilized country. If the two Muslim men need this “accommodation” they should buy all 3 seats in advance, or take some other step (fly First Class) to ensure they can satisfy their beliefs without inconveniencing another passenger.

I agree with you. Moving her to First Class if a seat was available would have been the best move.
Otherwise the proper move would be to split up these monks in to seats available in rows with men only.
She had a pre-booked seat and she should not be inconvenienced to accommodate special request by another passenger without her consent.

She should have slapped the boarding pass onto the attendant’s chest and demanded any checked luggage she had be removed from the flight and returned to her, while loudly proclaiming to the entire gate area that she will never fly United again due to their sexist kowtowing to backwards cults masquerading as religion.

1. The correct response to "This is your new seat" is: "I don't care - as long as I can get on board. I was worried you were bumping me from this flight all together!"
2. Airline employees never provide such detailed, substantive explanations. A more-likely explanation would have been, "I don't know how to tell you this, but the franistan on the deflector phalanx required us to re-assign your seat. So you can either take this new seat we're offering you - or wait until the next flight at 3:00 a.m. You have 5 seconds to decide."
