When in doubt, shoot? Even though you have no idea what your shooting at?

This happened in DC as well when the women drove on the capital grounds. The police went nuts. In that video they were clearly mad and started to shoot at her in a crowed city from as much as 50 yards away. When they finally executed her, they had her car trapped and they shot her several times through the car. Later they found a baby in the back seat who had somehow survived all the shootings. Police have to understand that cars can have more than one person in them. Its been that way since Bonnie and Clyde. A hail of bullets is not good police work.

Unfortunately, that appears to be the case some days. Shoot and don't stop shooting until you are sure that whatever you are shooting at is dead. This certainly seems to be the SOP for many police forces..... beyond that one can argue about justification but if that MO is accepted and practiced, there will be some percentage of collateral damage. That's just a statistical fact. In the age of technology in which we live, one has to ask why shoot with bullets that kill as the first tactic to use when there are other ways that can render a target immobile very quickly.

EXACTLY! The father is at fault for this child's death.

As much as people don't like it, this is the truth about this matter.

It may not be “right” but one can hope. Police have become the modern day Gestapo and everyone is getting fed up.

Where are the riots? Where are they activists screaming racism? Oh my God...this is all so stupid. The man did not follow orders and backed his vehicle up and the police could NOT see the boy in the seat. Not guilty.

I every jurisdiction in America lethal force is authorized only to protect the officer or the public.

I wonder what these officers put in their report to justify this?

If the cops been white and the dad and son been black, the news article would have noted within the first paragraph that the white police shot an unarmed black child. I scanned the article and saw no reference to the race of the black cops. This is typical NYT reporting.

It looks racist. The death penalty for both.

They knew they were shooting at a man backing his vehicle toward them. Unless they shot the child on purpose because of the father’s girlfriend being involved with one of the marshals. Then they need to be face the consequences. So far, the whole thing is convoluted, at least from what I’ve read.

I hope that they hang them. But reality says that they will get off with nothing more than a promotion.

Like others here u need to read more on this year old case and the cops

They are not good boys

Check them out

And what the LSP colonel who investigated it saiid

These cops are charged for a reason

This is a problem in areas like this and where I grew up 140 miles northeast

Minority run political structures and difficulty finding good cops

In Jackson miss you don’t call jpd

U call hinds county

You know why?

Need I spell it out in black and white

I’ve been amused here for 16 years over this topic

The ignorance of what some folks deal with

I was just through there going to Breaux Bridge for a family dinner at Cafe des Amis

Grew up with a lake house in Tensas in St Joesph

It’s a rural world of white wealth for the most part and black political power and those in between

Especially in the true la delta towards ferriday and waterproof

This incident also brings to light is it ok to shoot if not shot at?

Car as a weapon maybe

Really bad guy like a Muzz terr

Again probably

But it’s a slippery subjective slope and cops do lie

Some anyhow and those are the ones more likely to be afraid and shoot you

That’s pretty dreary

What struck me was state police dumped these two down the blue wall crapper pretty quick

That was indicative to me it was a bad shoot

Really bad

Five shots to the head of a six year old

Not something I ever want to see

I want to think Angels wings were there on the spot

My youngest is nine

There is no rationalizing

My niece works for the Ridgeland Police Dept, dispatch. She’s told me some very interesting anecdotes of the relationship between her dept and the Hinds Co dept.

Just re-read your comment. Perhaps her anecdotes were in reference to the JPD. I'll have to ask her again, when we get the chance to visit, we are so happy to talk and catch up with each other that our “conversations” can be very random and non sequiter, lol.

Well, yes, it is. I have seen the police killing people for no reason, only that they could and getting away with it until I hope for the best and expect the worse. At one time I had confidence in the justice system, but reality educated me. Waco and Ruby Ridge were two of the classes.

I trusted the excerpt presented adequate context, and figured this was a recent tragedy that needed time to unfold.

Anyway, details appreciated.

Good to see you too, FRiend.
