We know you will be surprised to hear that Ithaca has been named among the best cities for liberals in the United States, according to a new ranking by Livability.
The results cite Ithacas influence on Tompkins County, where 70% of voters supported President Obama in 2012 and Senator Bernie Sanders took a lead in this years presidential primary. Livability also points out that the City of Ithaca hasnt elected a Republican mayor since the mid 1980s. (Its actually been longer; Bill Shaw, the last Republican mayor, was elected in 1981 and served a two-year term before being succeeded by Democrat John Gutenberger. After that, we had the nations first Socialist mayor, Ben Nichols.)
Livability also cites Mayor Svante Myricks status as Ithacas youngest mayor and first mayor of color, and his Ithaca Plan to introduce the nations first supervised heroin injection facility. They say the very presence of Ivy League institution Cornell University, which has developed a left-leaning reputation, too, contributes to Ithacas liberal status.

If we can send ONE LibTard to Ithaca, why can’t we send them ALL? ;)
Pretty nice little town, minus the libs. Been years ago, but lots of little shops and restaurants, walked over the bridge to get to all the stores. Enjoyed flying on the twin-engine commuter planes out of Ithaca. They took off from the low lying airport and went vertical (least it felt that way) to get above the surrounding hills.
With a couple of exceptions, the list of liberal cities coincide with college campus towns like Ithaca, Berkley, Evanston, Cambridge, etc. No big surprise since lefties love living in echo chambers were they won’t encounter a differing opinion.
Skip Ithaca, but tour the beautiful Finger Lakes region, especially in the fall. Breathtaking scenery! Go when the grapes and apples are being harvested, and sample the wonderful New York wines.
“Horrywood!”
Bridgeport and Milwaukee had Socialist Party Mayors early in the 20th century, so this isn't correct.
I'm picturing lord-of-the-flies type government.
That brings up a funny point. There is a "Finger Lakes School of Massage" in Ithaca.
Oh, man. That sounds wonderful!

Good to know I can mark these off my list of places to move.
Just wait until a critical mass of islamo schlongs occupy their enclave.
Note to single young Freepers. If you find yourself in any of these cities for work or a visit and are in the social scene try to let it get out ( discretely ) that you are a Conservative. Many women in those cities are desperate to meet a real man and snowflakes don’t cut it for them.
But I guess that goes hand in hand with leftism.
Glad to see there aren’t any Southern cities on the list. The two that could be considered Southern, Alexandria and Bethesda are mere extensions of DC.
No Atlanta?? I’m really shocked at that one... esp the BuckHead or Gwinnett areas...
Glad uber lib Austin, TX wasn’t on it. We don’t need anymore lib freaks.
Ithica...good to know. Cross that baby off any travel.
My mother in law lives in the area, and I really enjoy visiting the city.
The key in restaurants is to keep quiet, listen, and try not to crack up laughing.
