Wow!
True that, as they used to say...
Lol. Fact check!
Gran Fury
Sorry. No smart phone back then. I will tell you that the speedo only goes to 120, but it was pegged, and the peg is quite a ways past 120. And the governor on those is supposed to be at 142, hence my choice of that speed. :-)
I had a ‘65 289 mustang that I customarily drove at 140 MPH for hours on end on I 15 in CA.
D'OH!!! I knew that. Silly me ... thanks for catching that.
*Unsafe at any speed* ;)
I know, you were thinking Porsche 917. LOL
“Do they just not monitor it?”
No idea. I used to take it home to avoid Austin traffic. I would be doing 100 in a Camry and cars would be passing me.
Now I take highway 35 to Austin every day and I do between 80-95 if there are no cars in front of me. Speed limit there is 70.
My Hyundai Genesis does 145 easily.
Gran Fury was not until the 70’s.
Lol. The longer this thread gets the higher the speeds get.
and my wife’s 2008 Mini Cooper Clubman S does.... not gonna say :)
What is there to check?
W is rated for 168. Besides having the proper rated tires, they are suppose to be over inflated to reduce heat build up at those speeds. If a tire went flat and then plugged it loses its speed rating.
When I was young and stupid we used to see how fast we could drive to Disney World from Fort Lauderdale. It was just over 200 miles, door to main gate.
My boss held the record with 1 hour, 42 minutes. He did it in a 1985 Grand Am (in about 1989 or so).
My wife and I were in the back seat holding on for dear life...
LOL, I live in MA, and they have a belt around boston (128/95) and it isn’t uncommon to do 80-85 with a car 10 feet in front and 10 feet behind in the left lane.
I have driven it every day for the past 30 years, so it is second nature, but my poor wife nearly has a stroke driving in it.
The stupid speed limit is 55, and I always think they like it that way so they can pull you over anytime they want...
LOL!
But since I mistakenly brought up V12 mods, check out this Spitfire with a Jag V12.
You’re right. It was a Fury. It was still bigger than a boat.
