In mid 2012, Kid Colton, the Barefoot Bandit, a true story of Colt Harris-Moore, Born to run, outlaw child.
Colt had the local sheriff after him before the age of 10, survived his youth by slipping in and out of dumpster and homes for food, and learned to evade the police by "melting" into the Pacific Northwest wilds. In the fullness of time whatever else could be found amongst the scrapes.

Wasn’t he offered aircraft engine training and a job when he got out? I seem to recall someone from SOCAL expressing interest in him when he got caught.
If he can fly and navigate to the Caribbean with no training, it could be smart to invest son training into him.
He did show extensive flying abilities for someone who hasn’t been formally trained. If he can keep his impulses under better control, this kid has a career in many different areas. If Clint Eastwood could make a lucrative movie about
“Sully”, a somewhat thin gruel for a full length movie, then someone is going to want to make a movie about this guy. They already have a name for him; Barefoot Bandit. Somebody smart has probably bought the licensing rights to use that name already.
In spite of his apparent flying skills, I still hope never to board a plane and discover he is my pilot.
I don’t see my pilots as people ‘Born To Be Wild!”.

There are bold pilots
There are old pilots
But there are no old, bold pilots.
I read the book about him after seeing an article in one of my husband’s running magazines (I think). Interesting stuff.
I hope the young man now makes something of himself, legally, in a productive occupation.

Wasn’t this the kid with a genuis IQ?

There’s still some pretty upset people here on Camano Island where he used to live and robbed a lot of homes.
