Johnson-Weld, two pot heads
“That is the first time I have heard that one.... The Democrats are scared if they are saying this. “
Gary Johnson has been campaigning hard left for a couple of months now. He’s going after Bernie millenials and will probably have considerable success.
Most voters who poll third party “come home” on election day. But millenials haven’t voted much and don’t really have a “home.” So Johnson may run up some big numbers mostly at HRC’s expense this year. I expect him to do so in Colorado, where he’s polling more than 10%.
“Why would anyone who is inclined to vote Libertarian . . .”
Historically, the party was stuck on marijuana legalization. Here in Colorado, they are big on gay marriage, abortion and marijuana. The Libertarian party gives lip service to (but spends no political capital) on religious freedom and small government.
For example, they would not take a stand during the gay marriage dispute in support of an amendment that would protect Christians from having to celebrate homosexuality. The Masterpiece bakery fiasco was a direct result of that. And, the MJ initiative was drafted by libertarians but created huge new taxes and a great big gvt. regulatory system. Frankly, they sell out principle as badly as the R’s.
So at least here in CO, they are the Libertine party and do very well on the left/Bernie axis.
That would be fitting since her husband won because of a third Party candidate Ross Perot in 1992.
People who are inclined to vote Libertarian aren't more than 1-2% of the electorate.
Johnson is polling 5-10%.
Democrats aren't worried about how hard-core Libertarians are going to vote.
Determined ideological Libertarians may all sit this election out for all we know.
It's the voters who defect from the Democrats (or Republicans) to vote for Johnson that are going to be a factor this year.
Democrats ignored Ralph Nader in 2000 and only mentioned him in scolding after Gore lost Florida.
