Nope...then we will just ramp up the fracking.

Franking here in the US scares the devil out of the Saudis. They have been trying to hold proices down to keep it from being economically feasible because it was doing so well.

See posts 114-121.

9-11 is a red herring. They’re using our emotions against us. Manipulative jerks, all of them.

“Will Iraqis start suing the United States? Libyans? Syrians? I can see this possibly being an expensive back and forth.”

Wow. This could be the opening salvo for the greatest national redistribution of wealth in the history of humanity.

And it’s perfect.

We set the precedent. Then we’re sued and money goes to the poor middle eastern nations. Then Africans sue us for giving them AIDS and perceived racism and the globalist politicians happily pay out. Then the EU is sued for their part in medication prices and they happily tax the hell out of the Europeans to pay off an entire continent...

Oh, this is a globalist’s wet dream.

Every single leftist grievance could be addressed with this policy.

And we would’ve been the ones who cheered it into existence.

Just freakin’ lovely.

The House vote is 348 Yeas, 77 Nays, 1 Present. The Senate earlier voted 97-1 to override. The President’s veto is overridden.

That’s only a risk in their imaginations. Think of something. Foreign terror states like the Saudis and Gulf States have huge investments here. Buildings, banks, media, jets, ports, you name it.

If they are adjudicated guilty, we can take things they value and hurt them bad.
Conversely, if they hit us in a Saudi or Gulf state court, who cares? We own almost nothing there.

They cant damage us nearly as bad as we can them in terms of actually having things to seize available to us. All of the dire warning were because the GOPe and Dems were protecting their Saudi benefactors. How many GOPe types get lobbyist contracts? How many speeches did Bill Clinton give them for cash?

It wont hurt us at all.

“Do the widows plan to sue? and even if that’s true, what will they ever collect? I know they’re unbelievably grief stricken and justifiably so, but I just don’t understand the motive here.

They will never collect a penny from the Saudis.”

Saudi Jet lands here, hit with a lien and seize. Saudi owned building? Hit with lien and seize. Bank accounts? Serve with papers.... seize! A government owned house in Beverly Hills and all those Ferraris? Hello US Marshals with a court order.

The Saudis wont write a check. But there are specialists who work morning noon and night to identify and grab assets.
Also, don’t forget the hedonistic value of shaming the Saudi government and our own enablers publically in testimony. That will make it very hard for them to continue the BS façade of legitimacy they love.

“Then the Saudis will stop making oil and the price will go to $200 a barrel. Then we’ll all be bitching.”

LOL, you wish. They do that we wont be bitching. We’ll be drilling again. The EU will hate them. They will lose everything and they are already going broke. Russia will celebrate and sell it for half that!

Dream on.

SO CONGRESS GREW APAIR AND DID ANI OVERRIDE...MAYBE THEN THE GOP CAN BE BOLD AND PUT SENATOR CRUZ OR DUFFY’S LANGUAGE INTO THE CR AND HAVE A FLOOR VOTE.

MCCONNELL’S OFFICE HAS SAID THEY DID NOT, I REPEAT NOT, INCLUDE LANGUAGE REGARDING THE PROTECTION OF INTERNET FREEDOM ACT.

CRUZ OFFICE SAYS KEEP CALLING SENATE GOP LEADERSHIP MCCONNELL...SO IF WISH TO CONGRATULATE MCCONNELL FOR THE OVERRIDE, ALL WELL AND GOOD, BUT NEED TO TELL HIM TO ALLOW A FLOOR VOTE WITH HR5418 AND SB3034 LANGUAGE IN IT—CRUZ OFFICE IS HOPING FOR A FLOOR VOTE ON FRIDAY WITH HOUSE HR5418 LANGUAGE.

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT MCCONNEL DID NOT HEED THE CALLS—I SPOKE TO LOUISVILLE OFFICE THIS MORNING AND THEY WERE GETTING LOTS OF CALLS

NOT OVER TILL FAT LADY SINGS, AND I HAVE NOT HEARD HILLARY SINGING THIS WEEK. PLEASE STAY ON THEM.

And then Africa sues us and Europe for global warming ruining their coastlines. And the international court grants them trillions. Then families sue us for Obama’s unsanctioned drone wars and the court grants them hundreds of billions... and on and on it goes.

Our congress just opened up the door to the biggest international redistributionist program in the history of man.

And once we set the precedent, NOBODY will be able to stop it.

Forget free markets. Forget the ER, TPP, or NAFTA.

They won’t need those things to put money where ever they want it.

All they need is an international court to decide what’s ‘fair’.

Alan Farley ‏@msttrader Giving 9/11 victims the right to sue Saudi Arabia opens Pandora's box, allowing 190+ countries to sue the USA..

I've read similar statements a lot, but no one ever explains how this works. How does it?

How would they collect on such judgments? This new law does completely abrogate foreign sovereign immunity; just makes a narrow exception regarding Saudi Arabia and 9-11.

You can’t make a ‘minor’ exception to international law and treaties without massive consequences.

If we try it in our courts, and we try to collect on Saudi Assets in the US, then we end up in a (larger) trade war with Saudi Arabia. And there would be retribution from many foreign governments. (Such as trying our soldiers in their courts for war crimes or kidnapping our diplomats)

If it’s tried in an agreed-upon international court, then it would have teeth. And then Pandora’s Box is opened forever.

When a lawsuit is filed, they can attach SA assets, such as real estate, ARAMCO, etc.

Watch for some juggling of assets, by SA. Transfers, etc.

Not immediately, but over time.

This bill is much less than it appears to be and Obama or future Obamas can put off litigation as long as they want because there is a delay clause “The legislation also includes a safeguard: It allows the Justice and State departments to put a stay on any litigation by certifying to a judge that the United States is “engaged in good-faith discussions with the foreign-state defendant concerning the resolution of claims against the foreign state.” That could be much like the endless postponement in moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem. However, the bill could open up the US to reprisal moves by other governments.

“Should have been happening at least once a month, every month since the 2012 midterms”

Exactly! Are we supposed to get excited that they finally overrode Obama and it was only when all the democrats agreed???!

Where are they regarding the internet give away?

If you think about it, veto overrides are virtually impossible. A congress which elects a president of a certain party isn’t likely to elect the opposite party into congress in such numbers that would make super-majority opposition very feasible.

Even in off-year elections, there is still the senate to deal with.

“So now everybody can sue governments for the harm that they do?”

Yep! All you have to do is make sure the entity is a US Govt listed terror organization like Al Qeida. The bill is worded well, and no nobody can sue any government.

And if I were a Syrian, I would indeed like to hold the US Government accountable for arming Al Nusra, the FSA, and ISIS.
