A federal judge Tuesday blocked Election Day voter registration at polling places in Illinois, declaring a state law allowing the practice unconstitutional because it created one set of rules for cities and another for rural areas.
Voters will still be able to register Nov. 8 and cast a ballot for president but only at a limited number of sites, including the county clerk's office, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections.
The ruling, handed down on National Voter Registration Day, is the latest front in a broader battle between Democrats led by House Speaker Michael Madigan and Republicans led by Gov. Bruce Rauner.
Democrats pushed through the same-day registration law in the lame-duck session that followed the November 2014 election, weeks before Rauner took over from then-Democratic-Gov. Pat Quinn. It was billed as a way to get more people involved in the democratic process after a trial program resulted in long lines, particularly in Chicago, where it was used at five sites by nearly 2,900 people, some who waited hours to vote.
Republicans cried foul, suggesting the new registration method could be used for voter fraud. Last month, a Republican northwestern Illinois congressional candidate sued with the help of the Liberty Justice Center, which was founded by the Illinois Policy Institute, a tax-exempt organization allied with much of Rauner's agenda.

The Republican northwestern Illinois congressional candidate is Patrick Harlan, 17th Congressional Candidate who is running against incumbent Cheri Bustros.
Please vote for him and support his campaign.
Trump gains 5% as dead voters stay home in Illinois!
Is that a porn name, or what?
Correction It is Cheri Bustos. She is the God daughter of Senator Dick Durbin. Many believe she will run in his place when he retires from office.
Cheri Bustos is even more of a stripper name.
The Democrat multi-state voters aren’t going to like this.
PATRICK HARLAN has a lot of push back on his candidacy. He even lost his job because of it.
Is this the beginning light that might eventually lead to an end to voter fraud in Chicago and Illinois? One can only hope, but it will be a long slow road.
NO they will register to vote at the “Birth Of A Nation” movie. They might vote there too who knows.
HARLAN WILL NOT BE STOPPED FROM RUNNING FROM PUBLIC OFFICE
Even though he has given up his job, lost friends and had to fight every step of the way, Patrick Harlan believes it is his mission to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Harlan is running as a Republican candidate for the House seat in District 17 because he believes changes must be made in government — including a need for representatives to bring the values of the people they represent to office.
Harlan told Rock Island Today that he has been deceived by members of the Democratic Party in the past, believing they were the candidates that would help fight for jobs for him and his neighbors. But, as he looked at the record of incumbent Cheri Bustos (D) — who represents his area — Harlan discovered her votes are more likely to chase jobs away than bring jobs to the 17th District.
I want the 17th District to have someone who truly understands what the 17th District is, he said. We are blue collar, working folks around here that believe in God. We work hard for our money and we’re farmers. That’s what this district is.
Unfortunately, according to Harlan, Bustos doesn’t seem to understand that. (excerpt...)
Voter fraud has been in the democrat playbook for 100 years.
Hang on. This is just WRONG.
Why should registration be limited to ELECTION DAY? What about registering and voting in the weeks AFTER the election?
IT’S ONLY FAIR!!!!
In case you didn’t like the election results.
Y’see.
Justice department jets full of lawyers revving engines to swarm Illinois, I bet. Holder would already be there with a megaphone.
Because this is America, that's why.
Excellent
Voting is a right that comes with some responsibility....Like registering BEFORE the election.
TOUR BUS DRIVERS WILL BE SAD
I’m more worried about those 117 year olds that vote via mail-in ...
Hopefully this will ebb the flow of ‘extra voters’ who might be needed to ensure Democrat victory in contested races.
Wait, that gives people have only six weeks to register by mail. How will they be able to that. Discrimination! Racism! Etc.!
Illinois . . . .you get what you vote for and it looks like Illinois has done just that. Spirit-filled revivals are needed throughout the state. . . sooner rather than later.
