Reports of “killer clowns” have emerged in three new states, as Virginia, Florida and Colorado struggle with Internet rumors and reported sightings that have left several towns shaken.

Residents and authorities in Palm Bay, Fla., have been on high alert since a resident reported seeing two “creepy clowns” staring at her from across a road as she walked her dog. And in Marion County, Fla., deputies are concerned after it emerged that a Facebook viral video, depicting a clown standing silently on the side of the road in the dark, had been filmed along a main thoroughfare in the area.

The video has more than a million views on Facebook.

In Henrico County, Va., a mother and daughter captured a “creepy clown” leering at them from another car during rush hour.

Furthermore, the Jazz Musician has been unjustly maligned. Viewed in its entirety, it’s hardly even about minstrel acts, which started in 1820, not 1926, and were around in some form in the days of Shakespeare.

I think it was part and parcol of most local kid’s show to have the “dummies” who couldn’t get much of anyhing right, especially when the show had a live “peanut gallery”.

Goes back to the 16th century and Punch and Judy shows, which would never be allowed on kid’s tv today.

(For that matter, “Blazing Saddles” would probably cause rioting and burning down of cities today.)

I think it was balanced out with the “kindler, gentler” shows, anyway - Capt’n Kangaroo, Romper Room and all sorts of kindly local tv kid’s hosts. That’s not even including the educational-oriented ones.

Had a black friend who thought of Amos & Andy as hilariously funny. Don’t remember it, but I was always told that it was racist, so my friend’s attitude surprised me. I’ll give it a look sometime.

It was in reruns for years until the NAACP complained, that’s how I can remember it. What made it funny was the characters, as with any other show. Most of it was pretty universal - e.g. I see a lot of the “Kingfisher” in Archie Bunker.

But yeah, check out the “Amos & Andy” documentary I linked to, it’s entertaining and informative.

I thought Willard was Ronald McDonald.

I imagine it would be hard to find a silly gig that Willard DIDN'T do, and make it work.

“Kid’s shows were great back in the day!”

Howdy Doody gave me screaming nightmares. And I was pretty sure Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans were up to something, too.

And, lastly, did anyone know that in Colorado it's a FELONY to impersonate a clown for nefarious purposes?

Impersonate? So if you are a natural born clown you can go about your nefarious purposes without fear of prosecution?

Recitar! Mentre preso dal delirio,
non so più quel che dico,
e quel che faccio!
Eppur è d'uopo, sforzati!
Bah!

Or in English:

Act! While in delirium,
I no longer know what I say,
or what I do!
And yet it's necessary... make an effort!
Bah! Are you not a man?
You are a clown!

Put on your costume, powder your face.
The people pay, and they want to laugh.
And if Harlequin shall steal your Columbina,
laugh, clown, so the crowd will cheer!
Turn your distress and tears into jest,
your pain and sobbing into a funny face – Ah!

Laugh, clown,
at your broken love!
Laugh at the grief that poisons your heart!

Sung by Pavarotti

Verdi's Rigoletto!

There's folks on this thread that would not be able to sit through a performance of that pinnacle of art...because they are afraid of clowns.

I recommend you check with the Colorado AG on that one.

Yes it is. Sad though, isn’t it? I mean Bozo The Clown, Howdy Doody, and other shows like “Andy’s Gang’’(Andy Devine) entertained kids in a wholesome way. God, what we’ve lost...
