Fox News ^

“Look at the war in Iraq and the mess that we’re in,” he said in an August 2004 issue of Esquire. “I would never have handled it that way…Two minutes after we leave, there’s going to be a revolution, and the meanest, toughest, smartest, most vicious guy will take over. And he’ll have weapons of mass destruction, which Saddam [Hussein] didn’t have.”

I recall Trump making a statement against the Bush war. Yet another reason to dislike him.

Nevertheless, he’s what we’ve got, so....

Bush has never once defended his war. It’s the theme the left has run with. No WMDs. Remember.

Oddly enough, Clinton is now the pro-war candidate, and Trump is the “war only as final resort” candidate.

He has amazing ability to turn things around.

The only evidence they have that Trump supported the war is that 2002 interview with Howard Stern where he kinda/sorta said he approved. Most of his comments after that have been either neutral or outright opposition to the war.

Trump knows that war is bad for business, except for a few government contractors and I wonder how much support they are giving the democrat.

He should just say “Really? You want to take an off the cuff discussion with HOWARD STERN as my approval of something as serious as a war? That is how low you have sunk?”

This is NOT difficult for TRUMP!

TRUMP wasn’t a Senator that voted for the War! That is all he needs to say!

The scary part is that Holt didn’t say Trump switched or equivocated, he flat out said Trump lied and supported the war. That’s how crazy and biased they are.

One important thing to remember is that if you were against the Iraq war, you had to make sure you didn’t make it sound like you were not SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS.

Personally, I was UNSURE of going into Iraq. I just didn’t know. I thought that the administration and our intelligence community must know more than I did. Either way, I ALWAYS SUPPORTED OUR TROOPS.

If Trump had come out and strongly opposed the war then, a lot of people would have taken it that he wasn’t supporting our troops. There is a difference.

The only evidence they have that Trump supported the war is that 2002 interview with Howard Stern where he kinda/sorta said he approved.

And that was when it was just an idea being floated -- Congress hadn't approved it yet, provided funding or sent troops.

Trump was a civilian with no vote, where Clinton voted yes for the war, that’s why the media wants to push this.

I recall Trump making a statement against the Bush war. Yet another reason to dislike him.

Trump, like many others, realized early on that Bush's wars would destabilize the region and create a power vacuum (just like Obama and Hillary accomplished in Libya and want to accomplish in Syria). The war's critics had the sense to see a mistake as it unfolded and propose that we climb out of the self-made hole, unlike the Bush yes-men, who just kept on digging after hitting bottom.
