Ruger Introduces One-Button Takedown Mark IV Pistol

You want easy to disassemble and clean, get a Browning Hi-Power.

My minion (younger son) doesn't have a problem cleaning my Hi-Power. He didn't have too many problems repairing and upgrading trigger parts on a Ruger MK II I acquired. Though he did note the disassembly/reassembly issues. But he's young, and a machinist, so the heck with him. Since he bought some Volquartsen parts to fix it, I just gave it to him. I still have my Browning BuckMark. I lucked out and got two Hi-Powers back when they were $400. One is still unfired.

I’m saying it takes a hell of a lot more repetition and familiarity to get really good at field stripping a Glock than it takes to get really good at field stripping a Hi-Power. For example. And nobody is paying me to field-strip a Glock 20,000 times.

I’ve been looking at a new 22/45, but I might just wait to see if Ruger brings the update to this model.

I had the Standard Auto and I liked it a lot. I never picked up one of the Mark pistols.

I shot the High Standard Supermatic in college. And since then I picked up several Ruger Single-Six revolvers. I also had to get one of the Stoeger 22 Lugers when they came out.

Yeah ... Always figured I'd keep my first one stock, and buy another one to get all fixed up.

So, when I thought I could afford to buy another one and get it all fixed up ... HOLY CRAP!!! They how much for this thing???

I looked at a Ruger Mark III, but decided against it, because we complicated cleaning and take down procedure. I liked everything else about it. I will have to take a look at the Ruger Mark IV.

My wife added a MKIII to our collection. That magazine safety just made the process even more complex than the MKII. The MKIV looks like a winner.

IIRC, some of the "quick strip" aftermarket parts for the MkIII also deleted the mag safety. Maybe that was part of the reason for the redesign.

Never had a trouble. My ‘old’ bull barrel target is stamped atop the receiver “MADE IN THE 200TH YEAR OF AMERICAN LIBERTY”.

I keep the take down and reassembly instructions posted on the wall where I clean my guns. I have to refer to it each time. Mostly, I just remove the grips and blast it with brake cleaner (the chlorinated, non-California type).

I think they did this to counter the success of the new Smith & Wesson 22 Victory and it’s ease of takedown, a single screw disassembles the gun for cleaning...

I’ve seen “complete take-down tools” on ebay for the MkII and III... wonder if they’re worth it...

and I’m building my station in the garage (old kitchen cabinets and counter :) )... when done I think I’ll follow your lead!

I have a Mark II. I don’t miss. Most accurate pistol I ever had. It’s a .22LR, but I can walk a coke can with it.

I have a MK III - even makes me a good shot.

yep, sweet to shoot. it’ll eat .22 all day long and not misfire or misfeed
