The "Alar Scare" plus Streep's well-publicized and fawned-over testimony, devastated the apple industry, drove tens of thousands of growers, truckers, packers, etc. out of employment, and caused uncounted consumers to stop buying one of our most healthy products for a long time.
No scientific evidence of harm done to anyone by Alar was ever found.
Obama isn't dumb by insinuating non-scientist DiCaprio into the White House to promote another one of his "destroy the American economy" ecological measures. Celebrities play key roles in shaping public opinion among uninformed and gullible voters, particularly right now before the November election. This timing isn't coincidence!
