Robert F. Stryker

Info from here.

ArmyPatch small   NavySeal small   Air Force Seal   Marines Seal small   Coast Guard Seal small (better)

Robert F. Stryker (November 9, 1944-November 7, 1967) was a United States Army soldier received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War.  He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery Throop, New York.  The Army Stryker vehicle is named in his and PFC Stuart S. Stryker's honor.

Rank and organization: Specialist Four, U.S. Army, Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division.

Place and date: Near Loc Ninh, Republic of Vietnam, November 7, 1967.

Entered service at: Throop, N.Y.

Born: November 9, 1944, Auburn, N.Y.

Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Specialist Stryker, U.S. Army, distinguished himself while serving with Company C. Spec. Stryker was serving as a grenadier in a multicompany reconnaissance in force near Loc Ninh. As his unit moved through the dense underbrush, it was suddenly met with a hail of rocket, automatic weapons and small arms fire from enemy forces concealed in fortified bunkers and in the surrounding trees. Reacting quickly, Spec. Stryker fired into the enemy positions with his grenade launcher. During the devastating exchange of fire, Spec. Stryker detected enemy elements attempting to encircle his company and isolate it from the main body of the friendly force. Undaunted by the enemy machinegun and small-arms fire, Spec. Stryker repeatedly fired grenades into the trees, killing enemy snipers and enabling his comrades to sever the attempted encirclement. As the battle continued, Spec. Stryker observed several wounded members of his squad in the killing zone of an enemy claymore mine. With complete disregard for his safety, he threw himself upon the mine as it was detonated. He was mortally wounded as his body absorbed the blast and shielded his comrades from the explosion. His unselfish actions were responsible for saving the lives of at least 6 of his fellow soldiers. Spec. Stryker's great personal bravery was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Please remember the Canteen is here to honor, support and entertain our troops and their families.  This is a politics-free zone!  Thanks for helping us in our mission!

Were leaving here tomorrow...if we can get the car running tiptop again. I think its battery is DOA on us. Ack!

She was the belle of the ball, as it were. And she was pooped when we got back. I think she hit the pillows before 9pm. I’m tired now too and it’s barely after 10. Still coughing up my toenails and it wears me down. Not to mention how aggravating it is! I’m sure everyone is tired of listening to me. LOL!

Glad you had a nice weekend. Did y’all get rain? They did here!

Hiya radu!

Lazy butt day for me, cooked breakfast and microwaved a late lunch. I didn't even go anywhere today, I'll reserve going shopping until tomorrow when most folks are back at work, heh.

We expect to have sunny, clear blue skys and 80ish all week.

You have a good day?

Welcome to the Canteen, Uncle Sam 911...I agree with you 100%. Any military sponsor should cease any sponsorship of those who diss our country.

And I’m hoping that the nfl, and nba, will start losing viewership. I refuse to watch either.

Good evening, Sand...((HUGS))...I could use another day, but I’m ready for evil Monday.

Did you use your “all fixed” grass trimmer?

Hope the battery is the problem and not something that’ll cost an arm and a leg to fix. Car problems are always a pain but worse when you’re miles from home dealing with mechanics you don’t know. Hope you can get home without any more problems.

At least the rain should be out of your way. That system is coming through here tomorrow but it doesn’t look like we’ll get any rain from it. Waiting for the weather forecast now to see if they’ve changed it AGAIN. They’re all over the map with their forecasts nowadays and we never know what to expect.

Glad your MIL had such a good time at the reunion. That and being with her family made for a grand trip.

Well, the forecast is over and no rain tomorrow OR the rest of the week. At least it’ll be cooler.
Guess I’ll be outside watering flowers tonight. *sigh*

Howdy, PRO!

Pretty lazy day here too. Just went to visit Aunt Clara for a while. I thought about going to the store on the way home but it was so hot, I decided to wait until tomorrow. I’ll do it on the way home from my HQ shift and it’ll be a cooler day. They’re talking 70s through the week! YAY!!!!!

Bummer you aren’t getting some rain. That sux! There was a really nice one here overnight. Hate you have to water. We did a lot of that during our killer drought.

I just hope whatever it is will be a simple fix. Hubby knows about cars but not the intricate stuff that’s on these newer ones. He can change a battery however.

I’d better go. Took 1/2 a Benadryl and some NyQuil, so I’m well on my way to sleepy. LOL! Talk soon!

We really need rain but it just won’t come here. It’s been a frustrating summer. And farmers are kicking up huge clouds of dust as they harvest so everything is covered with it - - cars, furniture because the dust gets inside the house, leaves on all the plants outside. YUCK!

I’m only watering three small beds so it won’t take long. Those beds have the flowers Dad sent a couple of years ago so they’re special to me. The rest of the flowers around the yards have been on their own all summer.

Good odds the battery is the problem since it was a sudden thing. Starters give you a little warning when they’re going to conk out. Keeping all appendages crossed for luck!

Good night, sleep well, and have a safe trip tomorrow.

Good evening, radu...a good day? Not too hot? Rain maybe?

We had a couple hours of rain and about 15 minutes of hail!

This has not been a good Mom day. Multiples of “you said”.

No, I did not!

I got her geraniums in last week, set up on a boot tray for watering. Last year she complained that she couldn’t go downstairs and check on them. All set up now upstairs.

Today...”these should be downstairs”. I said not a word...they are now downstairs. *sigh*

WOW...you had an awesome day before an evening and night of yukies. At least the worst yukies are in your own home.

A blanket and a book.

Howdy, Kathy.

Hoo boy. The fun with your mom never ends, does it? Sorry this wasn’t one of her better days.

Rain, YAY! Hail, not yay. Hope it wasn’t the large damaging hail. Even small hail can put dings in cars. Is yours ok?

Hot again and no rain here. Not supposed to get any with the cold front coming through later today either, and the rest of the week has no rain in the forecast. Just came back in from watering desperately thirsty flowers.

I guess the good thing about it being so dry is the farmers are getting their crops in quickly this fall. Can’t harvest when it’s wet.
