Gov. Brown signs bill allowing people to break into cars to rescue animals from heat

Gov. Jerry Brown on Saturday signed into law a measure allowing Californians to break into vehicles to rescue animals if they appear to be in danger from excessive heat.

**SNIP**

Under AB 797, a citizen must first call law enforcement to report a situation in which he or she believes an animal to be in peril.

But if the animal is in imminent danger, the car is locked, and law enforcement is not arriving quickly enough to save the animal’s life, the bill provides immunity from civil and criminal liability to a person causing vehicle damage for the purpose of rescuing the animal. The measure was supported by the Humane Society of the United States and the Los Angeles district attorney's office.

I can see it now......Trawanda walks by a car and sees a laptop in the passenger seat. She smashes the window and takes the device.

Then, Trawanda tells the po-leece there was a "dyin' dog in da car that runned away after she dun broken da winder"

I wonder if this law applies to cops who leave their K9s in the police car? I read about 1-2 stories a year about K9s dieing in hot cars.

So it’s 70 out. My Brittany is in the car and all the windows are more than cracked while I stop in to get a quart of milk. Would some fool think that it’s a qualifier?

This is a terrible law. Do you know how many interfering ignorant busy bodies there are out there? Let me give you a clue. How many people support Hillary.

White SUV (it's white for a reason). Cloudy day. 70 degrees. Sunroof open. Windows opened a good deal more than a crack. Dogs happy. Random idiot wanders dog about to panic, and threatened to call SPCA. Told him here are my contacts. Go call.

I cannot imagine the consequences of a law that let's him smash open the windows. First, my dogs are rather protective.

Someone is going to get bit while violating a dog’s space. Who is liable?

“I wonder if this law applies to cops who leave their K9s in the police car?”

A cop’s dog tends to want to eat your face off at the sound and noise of his window shattering.

“Dang officer, honest...I thought I heard a dog barking in this Escalade, so I only broke in to save it’s life.”

“Well, yeah, I know I was driving it, but once I realized there was no dog in it, I figured I’d better take it to the Cadillac place to get the window fixed.”

“Yes sir, I was gonna get the ignition switch repaired too. How else I gonna get it to the shop?

“Yes sir...I realize I been driving it for a week, but I been busy. I’m getting my life turned around and that takes time. I really was doing the right thing.”

“Who...Shawonda? Oh, she was just with me, showing me where the Caddy place is cause I’ve never been there before.”

“NO SIR, that was NOT my 2000 hits of Ecstasy. That must’ve been in there when I tried to save that dog’s life...well, you know what I mean.”

“No sir, I didn’t know that was a known drug area. I was just following Shawonda’s directions to the Cadillac place. You gonna have to talk to her about that.”

“No sir. That ain’t my gun neither! With my record, I can’t own a gun. You check the registration on it...you’ll see it ain’t mine. Musta been in the car already. I ain’t never even looked under the seat. How would I know it’s there?”

“But officer, I was just rescuing the poodle I saw trapped in the car when you drove up. Well, well, the dog it jumped out of my arms and ran off so that’s why I took their cellphone so I could call for help. Good thing you’re here....”

“Explains why you’re seeing more guys in LA with tire irons in their hands and Chihuahuas under their arms. :o)”

I see, a “throwdown dog!” That’s novel, but thanks to the changes in the criminal law here in CA a few years ago, unless you steal something from a car that’s worth more than $960, the cops have to issue you a ticket and let you go. It’s now called an “infraction,” not a misdemeanor.

This ain’t too bad, as far as legislation goes. The call to the police first makes it hard to use during crime.

I never leave our dog in the car unless I can watch it continuously. The only time I can really do that is when picking up mail or a package from a storefront business: park in front of it and my car is always visible through the front windows.

I have a hybrid. The air conditioning is powered by the traction battery, so it can run for 10-15 minutes before the charge drops to the point that the engine starts automatically.

I'm always worried that someone will see our dog in the car and think he is sealed up in a hot car because the engine isn't running. The electric radiator fan is running, but that's pretty quiet.

Any idea what Californian will be like when Trump kicks out all the illegals?

I was thinking the same thing. When liberals are in charge there is no end to the insanity. And The Dems want blanket amnesty for illegals so they can turn the rest of the country into Kalifornia.
