Trump's unconventional debate prep skips mock debates

NEW YORK (AP) -- Since he entered the presidential race, it's been Donald Trump's style to break with convention. It's no different when it comes to debate prep.

The New York billionaire has skipped practicing a full debate as he gets ready for his first on-stage meeting with Hillary Clinton. While he has studied policy ideas and practiced answering questions he may face Monday night, experts who have been through the process call his decision to skip time-intensive mock debates a mistake.

"I think he's putting himself at an incredible disadvantage," said Brett O'Donnell, a Republican strategist and veteran debate coach who compared Trump's decision to a football team failing to scrimmage.

Trump's Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, has run through full-length mock debates against a stand-in for Trump during her preparation sessions. For good reason, O'Donnell said. Gaming out every potential permutation of what might happen in the 90-minute showdown helps a candidate calculate how to respond.

“Trump = While I have lost money on a few Business deals over the past four Decades, I have never “misplaced” Six Billion Taxpayer funded Dollars like Hillary did as SOS when she ran the State Department.”

Think about it... to put it in perspective, the amount of money hillary lost as SoS is 60% of Trump’s entire net worth.

Trump’s main strength is his ability to think on his feet.

For 50 years, he’s been walking into negotiation sessions with people, and dealing with the issues they raise, with no “debate prep”.

Exactly....he'd really reach out if he mentioned in terms of number of people that could have been put back on payrolls. That would be an out of the ballpark grandstand home run.

It’s only a mistake if it doesn’t work. We’ll find out Monday.

I don't think anyone who's talking knows what Trump is doing to prepare.

A while ago I read that Laura Ingraham was Hillary for the debate prep.

This article would have us believe that Trump isn't doing any prep at all. I'm not buying it.

“But those debates assumed him to be a joke in the beginning. Mr Trump was nothing more than a ratings draw. All barrels will be trained on him now.”

I remember the primary debates a little differently. I distinctly recall that Megyn Kelly and the other Fox moderators came right out of the gate trying to destroy Trump in the very first debate. They weren’t joking even a little bit.

The attacks didn’t cease over the next eleven debates. Trump was Target One, and the whole country knew it. The mods were out to get him. The other candidates were out to get him. The media was out to get him.

The establishment never considered Trump to be a joke. They’ve considered him to be a deadly threat from the moment he stepped into the race.

I hope Melania makes an appearance at the debate.

All Melania has to do is get up on the stage before things start, and give him a hug and a kiss.

Where will Bill be? Will he even be there to be supportive?

If Trump puts Gennifer Flowers in the front row, we know exactly where Bill will be...........hitting on her. He has no shame.

The standard answer to any "gotcha" question like "Who is the Prime Minister of such and such" ought to be:

"That could change tomorrow and so it's not important or relevant to this debate. When I am elected President I will conduct the business of the United States in the best interest of the United States whoever is in charge of such and such."

Follow up will be "So you don't know who the Prime Minister is of such and such."

Answer: Only idiots would go into a debate wasting their time memorizing a list of CURRENT world leaders, which might change tomorrow, in order to try and impress you Mr. Reporter.

If you watch that bizarre performance where she asked ‘why am I not 50 points ahead?” it seems that she was not ‘herself’ - the over-acting made her appear a little drunk, though it may have been the result of medications that she requires to perform at all these days.

If she comes across that way in the debate, she’ll sink no matter what they do to try and help her.

How do you win at the Kobayashi Maru? You alter the scenario to be in your favor. It’s a solution which no one has ever tried before.

Trump has played it HIS WAY since the beginning and come out the winner against 16 well versed adversaries. WHAT DOES IT TAKE for his supporters to have some faith in his natural instincts and intelligence? Does everyone think that there is ever time for practice and reflexion when it comes down to the really important decisions. Our men in Benghazi would not have waited in vain if Trump had been in charge. He knows how to THINK, which is rare in this day and age of wimpy politicians. He doesn’t need practice on the correct answer because he is already ten yards downfield for a first down!JEEEEEZZZZZZZ People! Have some faith.

Mr. Trump has been debating for forty years,...The Art of the Deal, for example,..Hillary is going to fall off of her stool, they should have let her have it...heh heh It amuses me that people think they know better than Mr. Trump. EVERYTHING he does is planned weeks, MONTHS in advance.
