I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I do seem to recall that Patton voiced the thought of taking on the Russians after the fall of Berlin. And didn’t MacArthur express similar thoughts regarding China? Not sure my recollections are right, though.
Not looking to pick a fight w/anyone but neither was looking for conquest. Rather both wanted to send a message, particularly in MacArthur’s case, to China, in order to temper its aggressiveness w/its neighbors.
