While I agree with you in general that ads don’t seem to carry the weight they used to, it is still nice to see Trump going on the offensive on the airwaves. You have to admit that Hillary is a ripe target and it keeps her on the defensive.

Transplanted NY’er here (upstate): He can do radio and billboards in NYC. He’s already known. He just needs to hit the commuters. He’s already got everything between Niagara Falls and the Hudson.

But worth it if it gets you Manhattan. From Niagara to the Hudson, he’s already got the upstate locked up.

“But those here that have been caterwauling for TV ads, well, I hope they are happy. They have their damn TV ads. But in my opinion, they aren’t worth a plugged nickel.”

This is an unusual election year. Normally, negative ads are quite effective at driving a candidate’s negatives up. I’m not sure how effective negative ads about HRC will be. Most voters, including many who are voting for HRC, already know she is a liar and a crook with serious health problems. So negatives on HRC will just tend to say something people already believe.

However, positive ads for Trump are probably a good idea. He has very high negatives also and a lot of those negatives were formed from the media onslaught against him. Advertising directly to voters and changing 10% of those folk will have a measurable effect on the election.

Money wasted in my opinion. Nobody watches commercials on TV anymore. Nobody.
_______________

Don’t kid yourself. I haven’t owned a TV for 15 years, but I have many friends and relatives who know nothing about the current election other than what they see and hear on TV. This is especially true of seniors, but even the 30/40 year- olds will sit and watch evening TV hour after hour.

There's a paragraph the OP skipped over (or the article has been updated) that says:

"The buy would include $100 million in television airtime and $40 million in digital ads, according to senior communications adviser Jason Miller."

“Trump is adding Wisconsin, New Mexico and Maine to the existing 10 states where Trump ads are running. The campaign started with four battleground states and has gradually expanded as polls have tightened. The states where Trump ads will run will include Florida, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. “

from cbs I believe

Telling.

Not a single reliably red state.

Instead, a few purple states -- no surprise.

Plus, importantly, several normally blue states.

The advertising war is being fought on Democrat turf.

Very encouraging.

Stroke of genius for Trump to buy a large ad during the debate break!
