We know there some places our politics aren't welcome and others where it's OK.

The difference is, he was paying for this 'privilege.'

--along w/ a few other students and a lot of taxpayers.  Meanwhile the choice remains: speak freely or get the degree and earn a living.  Most of us choose wisely.  Even if (like me) it takes a while to catch on.  Fortunately it's a big world and there are still lots of other places where we can speak our minds just as there will always be other places where we can't (or shouldn't).

the instructor was such an idiot

The prof can have what ever IQ he wants and he's still the prof and the grade still counts.   It's like the time I once crossed a border Central America and met a 16-year old guard w/ a machine gun.  I was very respectful.

Well, there’s the wise course, and there’s the just course. The smart man shuts his mouth and passes, I’ll agree. Because that’s the case, however, does not mean that the situation isn’t a case of petty tyranny in action.

Right; so we pick our battles and win the ones we can.

“If you look at jobs that are dangerous, dirty, uncomfortable, or have odd hours...”

...you’re describing being a Mom! :)

“You probably have about 90% of an MBA right now, and you learned it on the job without spending a dime on it.”

That’s the route I took after the Army. I had most of my BA degree credits, but never finished.

Having Common Sense and a strong Work Ethic helped greatly. I’ve managed three multi-million dollar operations for others since leaving the Army in ‘93 and am now retired...with job offers STILL coming in the door nearly a year later.

I REALLY hated the hiring process, but I can say that I’ve only had one or two bad hires in 20 years. Not too shabby. ;)

The author would have more credibility if had spelled "Belichick" correctly throughout the article.

No joke. He has some sentences where he switches between 'Belechick' and 'Belichick' in the same sentence! It really amazes me hoe articles are put to 'print' with so many errors in them. The author is one of the site's editors, you would think he'd be a bit better at writing. I mosr skimmed this quick, so I might have missed a couple more errors at that! Grammer and speling are not that hard.

"If you look at jobs that are dangerous, dirty, uncomfortable, involve being on the road a lot, or have odd hours, they are predominantly done by men. It’s men who go down in the mines, mostly drive the trucks, clean out sewage pipes, fix roofs in the summer heat, etc. Of course, these jobs pay more than safe, comfortable, indoor jobs."

oh really....a registered nurse in a hospital over her career will work all hours, all days, all holidays,is exposed to dangerous chemicals and medicines let alone a constant barrage of infectious material....its not safe, its not comfortable, its incredibly hard difficult work and mostly done by women..

so your nice little diatribe about women doing the easy, soft jobs is moot...because its not true...
